Broken E500...to break or not to break

A friend of mine has a E500 on a 52 plate with 105,000 miles. The air suspension has broken and the quote for repair is £1500 at a specialist (MB main want £2500). Webuyanycar have made an online offer for £2350 (but don't know its broken) and the MB specialist has offered £1000 to take it off his hands. I told him a breaker might buy the car as the sum of its parts is well over £1000.

Any ideas /suggestions for him?

Its a US site so I guessed a 4200 as the 3200 was never sold there? (might be wrong)
