Brembo Big Brake Kit.

I recently made an enquiry to Scuderia Systems and was hoping they'd supply standard sized disks as an OEM alternative, but instead it's part of an upgrade kit.

So not an OEM alternative, but it does seem to stack up as an alternative to the FD big brake kit.

Details as follows..

Dear Miles,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Unfortunately, we do not actually supply just a set of Brembo discs alone for your 4200. We supply the Brembo GranTurismo brake upgrade kit - which is a complete brake system - changing the discs alone with the same calipers etc will a) not be compatible and b) wouldn't make any difference!

Here is some information on the brake upgrade:

Information:
The 4200 GT was always underbraked from the factory - a reasonably heavy GT car, the brakes were derived from the Ferrari 360 and unable to cope with really spirited driving. Brembo recognised the problem and have developed an excellent upgrade with their GT kit. The car is fitted with enormous 355mm discs all round (front and rear), with high performance racing pads in massive six-piston brake calipers linked up to the OE fittings with stainless steel braided brake lines. Once fitted, the 4200 stops the way it accelerates - braking performance is, put simply, massive. Brake pedal feel is consistent and the bite from the brake pedal is razor sharp allowing the car to stop immediately. Even with extreme road use and the most sustained, lap-after-lap, trackday usage the brakes suffer from ZERO fade, giving high performance drivers the confidence to really push their 4200 to their own limits. And finally, the Brembo GT kit fills out the 19" OE wheels giving the 430 a more aggressive and satisfying look.

The overall braking performance is actually so extreme that the limiting factor now becomes the tyres on the car instead of the brakes themselves. Moreoever, the cost of maintaining the GT kit is far below that of Maserati's stock kit pricing.

The Kit includes:
- 2 X Six-piston Brembo GT Calipers Front
- 2 X Four-piston Brembo GT Calipers Rear
- 355mm Front Brake Discs (this is the biggest I've ever seen on a road car)
- 355mm Rear Brake Discs
- 4 X Brembo GT brake pads
- All braided brake hoses for mounting.
- Fitting kit
Total cost: £6990 + VAT

Front kit alone: £3300 + VAT. This price is about the same as the stock inferior full front brake system from Maserati.

A 380mm front disc set is possible for customers who have larger wheels.

The lead time is approximately 3 weeks. We've driven the car when this kit was fitted to our own test car and they completely changed the 430 into something you can actually drive hard with confidence. The braking performance was unbelievable - pictures of the kit (attached) will tell you what you need to know - the pictures compare the GT kit with the stock 430 steel brakes....

Kind Regards

Manu

Its a little bit more than i would be willing to plow into a 4200 and i asked Brembo if they could supply disks for a 4200...It is confusing as the disks in my car are all stamped "brembo" but they said they dont do them?????
Odd

I think they ring-fence their OEM business Adam, at least until the OEM parts are discontinued. Frustrating though it is, I guess it does make sense. They're not going to bite the hand that feeds them.

Yes that would make sense.
Still for older cars......like the 3200 you can get them no problem

I thought the 3200 had the same discs as the 4200? If not I'd like to see where I can get them cheaper than OEM from Eurospares, anyone know? I have always felt the brakes on my 3200 were not great, the description given in the letter from Scuderia seems to match my experience, but I'm not willing to part with over £6k!

Performance Italia stock the same Brembo Big brake Kit mentioned above.

Our price to SM members is substantially cheaper than the price quoted above (and cheaper still to SM member than the price quoted on the PI website), we also stock the 'Stage 2' Upgrade kit, which ineffect has all the components from the Brembo Kit besides the upgraded calipers - http://www.performanceitalia.co.uk/maserati.php?model=4200, Gransport, Coupe, Spyder&part=MAS-4200-FDBBK&cat_id=3#parts

Thanks
