Bonnet gas struts

Has anyone replaced the gas struts on their 4200 bonnet and found an alternative to the OEM item. While topping up the windscreen washers today the bonnet dropped and now won’t stay up. OEM are £40 each, but as they are manufactured by Lift O Matic and then have a Maserati part number on them as opposed to a generic Lift O Matic number I am sure they must be available at a sensible price directly from the manfr. I remember getting some for another car but the strut also had the original Lift O Matic number as well, and were about £ 25 for a pack of two, cheers.

Not for the Maserati, but I bought boot struts for my old Alfa 159 here:

They do stainless if you fancy an upgrade and were you to work with me to supply slightly shorter ones as the 159 boot could go through the rear window if they break. The original Alfa ones have plastic clips that might as well be made of cheese...

The Lift-O-Matic / Stabilus code is 2187LM.
  • Eject Force [N]: 300
  • Length [mm]:
    STABILUS 2187LM 476 Length [mm]
    476
  • Stroke [mm]: 180
Not found anything particularly more economic. You may have more luck.

Seem to remember when I replaced mine ( bonnet 4200) , turned out they went with an annoyingly awkward thread pitch that wasnt universally used..PITA butt. But then I wont pay silly money for basic parts bin junk,,,if I can help it !

I've used the UK made ones mentioned above on the F car , engine cover struts and glove box strut, and Range Rover bonnet. Recommend.

While on the subject of gas struts, does anyone know a company that can re-gas struts? I would like to get the Montreal rearhatch ones done. Nice to retain as any original parts has possible.
