If anyone has seen this car for sale and is interested in viewing it then please contact me to get my opinion before doing so if required. I went to see it yesterday and suffice to say I wouldn't touch it with something longer than a barge pole.

what is exactly wrong with it?

A huge long list of faults. It's unroadworthy in its current (no MOT) condition. Needs around £7k spending in my estimate and still wouldn't be perfect. One of the most neglected GSs I've ever seen. Very sad and annoying as the colour/spec was what I'm looking for.

OK, everything I can think of:

Hasn't been serviced since January 2008!
Has no current MOT
Front bumper damaged and cracked, needs repair and repaint
Rear bumper is scuffed and needs repaint
Rust bubble forming under n/s rear light
Various scratches all over bodywork, especially bad in front of bonnet leading edge
1 rear wheel buckled, needs replacing
3 wheels badly kerbed
2 rear tyres damaged beyond repair
all tyres cheap Korean make
n/s front inner arch lining damaged and falling out
1 broken electric window switch
badly scratched carbon fibre centre console
driver's side leather bolster badly worn and other leather damage/scratches inside
front discs need replacing
handbrake doesn't work - needs new shoes and adjustment
1 electric motor on driver's seat doesn't work
car is generally filthy inside and out
car has c.£25k finance outstanding on it
service history stamps suspect - all appear to have been written/stamped at same time
log book incomplete and partially filled in to different owner
no other paperwork present

I estimate around £7k needs spending on this car to get it anywhere near the standard of other GSs on the market. Even then it would still have missed at least 2 services which would impact on future value and could present problems with the car in future as no fluids etc. have been changed. It's such a shame to see a car in probably my perfect spec so badly neglected. The owner clearly has not looked after it and doesn't appear to have spent a penny on it. It allegedly had a new clutch at some point, but there was no paperwork to back up this claim. The first owner was Maserati UK, so it is a good spec car, possibly an LE. I believe it was the car given to Jodie Kidd to use as I saw a programme with her and the car in it and the registration number is the same. Car is Nero/nero registered February 2006 and has done 44k miles.

Not pretty reading......................when they get to this stage, its buy it cheap and do the work, or leave to become a parts car as the mnoths pass...a real shame!

It would be interesting to see the sellers description and the expected price for the car in that condition.
If it has 25K of outstanding finance then its clearly not going to make that price based on what you say.
Still at the right price all the issues can be remedied bar the lack of servicing and even that could be checked with maserati to se who has done what as there are not that many dealerships in the UK.
If its not main then it may be specialist so a little detective work and e few carbon bits and the car sprayed in a few placed and you have a reasonable car for The "right price"
THink of it as a cat D with no paperwork anymore but not too badly damaged....

But surely at £19k plus the 7k making £26k that about what you would get a decent one for?
Sure we are not talking £15k for the trouble it may give?

never did my adding up, with 7k its 26k so thats good enough for a good one but maybe older one and not an le so at 17k its about right then you put 3k in an account for anything else it will need

In the condition its in Dem it would have to be a very appealing price as money is talking at the moment and if people want to sell (myself included) you gotta make it a irisistable price

Yeah.................almost giving it away.....they are hard enough to sell at the best of times.............not in a recession, not in the state its in...and more to the point, its come from a home that patently didn't love it....:(

I don't understand how people can't look after a car as desirable as the GS. Must be the sorts that are so rich that they don't care - it's just another car to them.

Apparently the car was immaculate when sold by Maserati 2 years ago . I've found out some more about the owner (love the internet!) and it would seem it was bought by somebody with no idea of what Maserati ownership entailed or willing to spend where necessary. There's no missing service history, just that the last service was by Maserati when they owned the car in January 2008! This owner hasn't spent a single penny on the car since from what I can see, even let the MOT run out. 2 years of servicing plus mileage services missed is the biggest value damage to this car. Imagine what the engine internals must be like, not to mention transmission, brake lines etc. The owner is asking a very optimistic £26.5k for it (recently increased the asking price by £500!) and told me the car was in excellent condition. Claims he's been offered £22.5k by the trade and my advice was that he bite their hand off!

This guy is far from rich. A former estate agent who's gone bust and owes more than the value of the car on finance. Champagne tastes, lemonade money springs to mind.....
