We are saying the same thing. When the valves are open they are open and the sound is the same.
There is a difference between Manual Sport mode and Auto Sport mode sound. The Valves are fully open in manual mode and only open above 2500rpm in Auto mode.

I am pretty sure partial opening would imply an impossible to control (because there is no-feedback loop that I have seen) partial vacuum. Must be full open or full closed?

People are actually arguing with Maserati literature, whatever next! :D

The ECU sends a signal to the solenoid when the revs increase over 2500rpm to open the valves in Auto sport mode.

Well we know it's not perfect. The the valves in the boxes weld open (or shut) I rather suspect this accounts for the difference in cars and their noise output. AV wrote a piece on this some years back

On the subject of three exhaust settings, what happens with the MC Strad, that has "normal" (i.e. valves closed), "sport" (i.e. valves open) and then "race", which is miraculously even louder, even though the valves are already fully open. How does that work?! Or is it just that the different settings make the valves open lower and lower down the rev range? (Meaning presumably that at say, 5000 rpm, the sound difference between Sport and Race is nothing, as the valves are fully open in both examples?)

Did I read that the mv auto shift has launch control?

If so cool! And no clutch to fry!
That's what it says but it's not clear if the car automatically holds the revs for you (as my Audi does) or if you have to judge it yourself. I'm not sure if I'm brave enough to find out!

Indeed it does !... but I never tried it... sure I saw a you tube on it though.. essentially it's brake torquing ... And you can do that (apparently) on the Stelvio QF I have now.. Select Race Mode (Sport on the Maser) And floor the Brake then the accelerator - Revs settle at 2700 - foot off the brake and feel your eyes go through the back of your skull.....

Or something like that..

Yep understand that but can’t understand why at any given revs when they are open that the noise is different in either mode.

Will people stop getting it wrong FFS!!!! :D

I need to post this on a sticky thread.

For the last time Strad modes of exhaust from the workshop manual which is Gospel.

Good to know. As I thought, at my exampled suggestion of 5000 rpm, there is no difference in noise. So my GC-MC in Sport mode sounds exactly the same as an MC-Strad in either Sport or Race mode, at anything over 4000 rpm. I didn’t know that before, so thank you.
