BAA Strikes

As some of you may be aware I work in Ireland tue, wed and thu (apparently that makes me a t.w.a.t. :) - thanks GaryC)
Anyway, with the planned strikes potencially effecting Southampton airport I may well have an unexpected road trip on the cards. So the obvious choice of vehicle is the Maser, however, I've just taken on 15 new salesmen and will be conducting their training next week. Parking the new car out the front of the office may not go down too well with some of them - the old green eyed monster scenario, bearing in mind that including taxes a GTS is nearly €200k in the ROI apparently.

So what do you reckon? F***'em and enjoy the drive or take the Clio as the Beemer is at the menders and the Lotus will leak in the inevitable rain.

I may be an asperational tool mate. When any of my staff look at or talk about my cars & bikes I tell them " Work as hard as I have and you too will reap the rewards" never had any negative feed bacK & have two house keepers that have just taken delivery of brand new Honda cbr 600's!

difficult one that
I have always held the view that you dont waggle your wealth in front of a; the client b; the work force.
both will soon work out that they paid for it.

however it is a balance of projecting a succesful image to the client & an achievable goal to the sales men.
the beemer is good for this , as is a merc. both ordinary and common enough to be acceptable.

besides........if you take the masser to Ireland some scumbag knacker will key it

Negative feelings towards your possesions depend on what type of person you are and how you treat your staff & others around you.

A person can be a **** with or without a nice car.....

I'm lovely of course :) The t.w.a.t. Mentioned in my original post refers to the Tue. Wed. And. Thu. that I work.

Rob, yep share the concern for malicious damage. In that respect I'd probably be most concerned about leaving it outside my house over there, as some of the neighbours are defo knackers!

Interesting clip from a film some may have seen "Glengarry Glen Ross". Warning: a bit of swearing. Certainly not my philosophy on life but quite riveting...

re: journey to Ireland, don't forget the possibility of damage on the ferry over ... that would put me off.
Other than that, I've always driven my maser on any work trip. I don't really care what the workforce think, most of them could trade in their current rides and get a 3200 so I don't see it as sticking it in their face, it comes down to choice of car at the end of the day. I also drive a Kia Picanto so can see it from both sides!!!

If he has to make excuses to be seen in his car P, then he might as well not have bothered buying a Gran Turismo!

I love the Alec Baldwin scene, sums up what you'd love to say and do but of course doing the opposite is generally far more effective. We actually use some of the lines as a team in a light hearted fashion eg. Coffee's for closers only... If soneone's had a poor week, but I stress it's done in jest!

Today the 15 were officially offered the post and invited to be on the training course Monday morning.... We're now down to 8. Amazingly, given the current climate, this is not unusual. Of those confirmed for Monday I think I'd be able to put an aspirational spin on it (you can tell I want to do the drive, can't you...!)
It is all about "inspire to achieve" afterall.

The ferry crossing is a concern. I witnessed a ferry operative open a car door ******* to my lotus on a recent IOM trip, as "helped" someone out of their car as they were struggling whilst trying NOT to do the very same thing.

So, decision made. If the strike happens next week, I'll take the maser. If it doesn't then this is all fairly academic... And I'll have to find another excuse for the drive over :)

As regards the ferry.....I alway engage with the loaders......crew on the loading deck, and ask them , where would they put their own car, one or two offer to hold you back for a better line/location, or radio up to a crew member to ask for a safer place, then chock them....then wait till the cars are loaded beside you...sit in your car....no one will ding it if your in it........plus then be first down on your section of parking!!
