Autotrader/confused car valuations

How does everyone see these in terms of accuracy?

They seems to be fairly accurate too me,

There is also a slight difference for some reason between the confused valuation done when you do an insurance quote and the figure given if you use the valuation part of the site

Not sure if insurance companies use WBAC to work out a pay-out on a write-off but I always say get an agreed value on your 4200 as what WBAC would offer is abysmal.
So with older cars they can be way off the mark imho.

you're spot on with that, my wife's cherished bmw x5 4.6is was stolen last month, owned it for 16 years, occasional use as her second car, full main dealer history, 90k on the clock and the w4nker insurance company offered 4k as that was the average from, Glass's, Cap etc, naturally told them to stick it where the sun don't shine and come back with a real world offer

Insurance company's use glasses' and cap. That's what the assessor was showing me when I wrote off my 3200. He offered me bottom book value but I negotiated it to top. Which was 1000 more than I paid for it and covered the excess

Doubt they even have 32-400's in those directories anymore due to age. I blagged a trial to glasses a couple of months ago and it was ****. Couldn't tell me the value of a 2010 audi a3 when i was looking for a run around

It’s an insult.
I’d rather them ask for various photos of the car/invoices from the start, at least that would sort some of the wheat from the chaff and if that day unfortunately arises then it would be a case of “Go find me one like that for four grand”

I was the same with the Alfa V6 Spider, got offered buttons, argued, and in the end send an independent assessor whos word I was told was final. Over £1000 more than I paid for the car, so was happy with that, sorry about the car though.
