A rain front has come through overnight with lower temperatures today to give everyone reprieve. Smoke has finally cleared here. It is reported the father and son who died on Kangaroo Island were returning to their property after helping to fight the fire at a friends. Sadly the fire overcame them on the highway.

Another cooler day here, and very light rain. This has allowed fire-fighters to get some control, and have a well-earned rest. Hot weather due back on Friday! My rain-water tanks are down to about 400 litres (from 13000) - we need more rain...

The 3200GT is fuelled up and ready to flee - along with its 5 'mates' in the garage! There is a (fairly) safe parking area at the nearby rugby oval.

Thanks for the concern and good wishes,

Greg Mackie

Been reading this too and find it so shocking and utter stupidity causing so much suffering.

Clarkson is an ar5e, he just makes comments to get publicity.

Can't believe how bad it is in Australia, we have many friends there who are experiencing the impact in air quality although most are far enough away to not be impacted by the fires themselves. Unfortunately with changing weather patterns things like this are going to be more frequent and not just over there.

half a billion animals killed its estimated.!!!

Edited to billion
This is so so sad! People have at least a chance of escaping in most situations but the animals have no chance. If I was in Australia right now, me and the missus would be getting straight down to the animal shelters to help out as much as we could, 24/7. Such a tragedy. :(
