I have just had a high quality 8 channel CCTV system with 2-way audio, 2TB hard drive, option for continuous recording or motion/heat sensing activated recording, footage on my phone when I am away, dedicated camera at front door instead of the expensive Ring system that comes with fees for cloud use and can talk to caller at the front door through push notifications on my phone. I had already commissioned an NIC EIS electrician for 1st and 2nd fix work on the extension. He installs these systems all the time. Gave me th pros and cons of wi-fi versus mains powered system (I was already leaning to mains power anyway). I chose the system (he recommended several options). We went with PoE (Ethernet) and the 1st fix for all the cabling was considerable and he tied in with the drilling and cabling for other electrical work after we agreed the siting for the cameras. The cost was similar to a 4 channel Alarm installer's system but I got 8 channel and 6 cameras whreas the alarm installer was providing 4 cameras.

I don't say qualifications are a guarantee of workmanship. But for the extension, I need an NIC approved electricians certificate to sign off the electrical 1st and 2nd fix is compliant with legislation - the certificate will now also cover the CCTV system. If he has taken shortcuts that transpire down the line, I'll use the NIC body to complain if he does not put things right. Each has their own choice. I talked to a few Alarm Installer companies but never really felt happy with their "advice" and heavy sales technique. I made my choice. Rest can make their choice.
