For £5k or under I would be tempted by a Honda S2000. Great car to drive and would be super reliable.
Good shout again but doesn't meet the practical bit. However could be high on the agenda for the 2nd car low cost 2 seater option.

Only problem I found when I looked at them before is a decent enough one without sky high miles seemed to cost a bit more. Can a decent enough one be had for £5k? Definitely always wanted one since I saw the impressive Honda performance/show at a motor show at excel a few years back.

Good shout Mr Coop - I had a 16v turbo and loved it. I think it still looks excellent and the small design elements like the metal dashboard and the alloy, hinged fuel cap are sublime

Oh yes, lovely car and pretty quick...

I was looking at that earlier. 100k miles but it is still under priced. If the service history is in order it could be a bargain. The downside is the DPF would choke up on a regualr basis if its only being used for short local trips.

I was really surprised to see the price of that car. It's way under-priced. I hope it sells soon as mine is likely to be on the market later this year - a lot less miles, recent cambelt & waterpump plus some choice mods make it a fantastic and quick car, but I no longer want a manual as a daily.

That is a very very good shout and one that is also on my list. Might have to drive one or make sure I didn't have one with runflats as that was the worst part of the ride on my old E60 530d. Has to be one of the best options I think. Not sure about best model as know nothing about Z4. Is SE the best option?

I've had one in the past, not for long mind, and I didn't like it. The only Z4 I would have is the Z4M.

The SLK is a bit of a hairdressers car, but you might just pull it off...hehe...

This is a lovely car if you don't need rear seats - http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...l_to_2-5l&model=gtv&make=alfa_romeo&logcode=p

Had a Z4 2.5 myself and loved it.. wish I'd never sold it!

Engine is lovely and it's a comfortable car. The only downside was the runflats made it tram-line all over the place. If I'd have kept it I would have replaced them with some Goodyear Eagle F1's.

What a lovely GTV and a bargain too - a little over £4,500 for something so stylish. I like the Italian flag touches on the leather too

Now that is pretty...face lift and a rare colour outside and in...shame it is not a V6.
That is indeed a very nice example. Would have to be the V6 for me. Every time I compromise a little I never end up 100% happy. I don't do many miles so the mpg is not really important.

I never look at the Maser mpg for obvious reasons! Ignorance is bliss

I think I've narrowed it down to a GT 3.2 V6, a 147 GTA or a 156 GTA Sportwagen.

Anyone have any opinions or experiences or either model that would point me towards one more than the other?

Just need occasional practicality and a good interesting daily drive. Was looking at a 5 door Golf GTi MK5 but think the Alfa would be a bit more interesting.

147GTAs are on the up so you won't lose anything but make sure you find a good one. 156 GTA SW are few and far between and generally will be that bit older along with all associated wear to suspension and steering components.

In my mind the best all rounder is the GT by a country mile, can easier carry 4 or 5 if rear passengers are children, has a reasonable boot and looks great being a true coupe. They are stonkingly quick, sound awesome and handle well. I would say all that as I have one but frankly I am stunned how good a car it is, come over and have a play and see for yourself.

I knew you would pop up and say that . I know your right & am swaying that way to the GT.

Thanks for the offer & much appreciated. I will definitely take you up on that offer shortly. Just got to get ourselves sorted at work & in a better place over next couple of weeks after some tough & tricky times. Will have a smidge more time to sort the fleet out then....and my back!

Sometimes I wish I just had a simple 9-5 job!
