I couldn't remember whether it was or not but thought I'd post it up anyway. So has this been passed from dealer to dealer in an attempt to move it on or is it the same dealer then do we reckon?? Wonder what 'improvements' have been made since the last guy had it then as, from memory, it wasn't in the best of shapes was it??

As ever, intriguing and if anyone has the time and the motivation then a report would be 'enjoyed' by us all here I'm sure!

Cheers

You've got to remember that £38k isn't what you'd get though - or anything near it!

With compliance, GST, duty, LCT (depending on value), shipping, marine insurance, AQUIS etc etc etc, £38k probably represents the cost of sending a £17-18k car over. It may be slightly better than that as compliance etc has probably come down, but there's not as much in it as it looks.

The main benefit to Australians buying in the UK probably isn't so much price any more as choice....there are more to choose from here!

Hello all....as a new member, this is my 'introductory post'. So feel free to extend me a warm welcome!

I largely agree with nigw.....price is less of a driver now when importing a mas than is supply options.....which is what is driving me to join this site, and similar ones. Whilst our currency has strengthened.....and I believe this is purely a temporary blip that will soon correct itself within the next 18 months.....and whilst compliance costs have reduced......to some extent this is off-set by the fact that the perception of demand has put a floor on your own market prices (from my very inexperienced point of view), and the fact that the flood of maserati's to our own shores has seen their own prices plummet locally. So margins are not as lucrative as some on here might like to think....

Having said that...it is still preferable to someone like myself.....15 years importing from USA, uk and Japan.....to import rather than buying locally. But again, as per nigw, this is often to do with the potential of sourcing our preferred spec.

Which leads me to my own 'wanted to buy' post.....which I shall also post elsewhere.....

But am now in the market for a 4200 variant...coupe, spyder, gs, mvc, etc....in one of the following color combos;

1. Red with cream interior
2. Blue with cream or light coloured interior
3. Grigio novulari with any colour interior

Must have 'sensible' mileage for its year, robust service history, and a complete absence of rust or any form of accident damage or repair.

I look forward to becoming a worthwhile contributor to these forums....need to get myself the mas first!

Welcome jezza. Get on to Dicky Grace. He will find you the right car. I have recently been through the exercise and having used Dickys services I would suggest having a chat to him.

Hi Gary,

As noted earlier in this thread, this car is not in the best condition, so probably reflective now of its true value.

It makes the Australian delivered car also on Carsales now look incredible value at much the same price.

The dealer that has the black one now tried to obstruct the sale of my Alfa 159, as the purchasers had seen a similar 159 in his yard.

And you wonder why used car dealers get such a bad reputation?

Hmmm? I might go and have a bit of fun at his expense with the AC perhaps!

I hope you are enjoying your 4200 and it was worth the wait.

Hi Stephen

Figured there was a reason for such a large drop....this could be a potential money pit for someone then if the dealers have already dropped the price $15k then maybe they know something others don't about it!! As the say, the Oz-delivered one now looks even better value.

I think if this dealer has tried to put the boot in for your sale it would only be fair to go down and have some sport with him by way of payback. Trader's like that don't deserve good customers so I reckon go and give him a hard time about it and ask some awkward questions!!!

My 4200 has simply been amazing thanks. Going on 14 months of ownership now and it hasn't missed a beat or cost me any excess dollars. I spent some money refurbishing the wheels but that was by choice and not necessity and it continues to amaze and please me in equal measure. I simply adore it and it gets much lavish attention wherever it goes as they are very rare here in Brisbane - still not seen another one in 14 months!! It gets a disproportinate amount of my time as I'm always cleaning it and making sure it looks it best and the wife isn't too happy about that but as I say to her, I don't gamble, drink or womanise so whilst I'll admit it's a vice, it's certainly not a destructive one!!!!

You still have the Monte Carlo?
