First off, sorry for quiet period from me on here. Rather trying to keep things together, we have about the Worlds worst covid stats right now here in Chile, and things are pretty grim. Combine that with winter (or shortest day, today, in fact) and things are quite dismal.

But, a pandemic never stopped a little man maths. Attached is the strads new garage mate (not my garage, in the pic, unfortunately, but both my cars as of last week).

1961 Porsche 356B T5 Coupe, Super 90 version. All original numbers match, and I'm only the third owner in its incredible 60 years. The car has been really well enjoyed, I bought it from a mate who's family it has been in for 50 years. It's going to be thoroughly thrashed for a while, and then returned to its original dark blue and a full restoration, hopefully most of which will be done in my home workshop (that I have yet to build!).

I've always liked beetles, my first 3 cars, and this feels so simple, yet special at the same time. Amazingly, quite fast too. If the whole world starts working again, it might even not be such a bad investment.

I am similar to you. I have a 4200GT but also a 993 Targa. That 356 is a thing of beauty. Congrats on the purchase. If there happens to be another knocking about, do let me know.

You don't get much for your money!!

Yours seems an excellent investment, good luck with the work you have planned.

thanks for all the nice comments chaps. yes quite quick, they are so light, i'm completly guessing here but doubt they weigh more than 950k? Very small indeed. Many nice cars in Chile! and, 85k is a joke for that. You could get a really complete project car for far less. Check out the US auction sites.

356 what's not to like and 61 a good year IMO.

There is a 1961 T5 Super 90 for £57,5k here in the UK that's a running nOK but not concourse car

Looks really nice, the "outlaw" look is great too, I'd revert back there as the car is already non-original. I'm guessing (hoping) these values go up soon. These things cost 5K 20 odd years ago. They rust quite quickly, and the rest we probably piled in to ditches back in the day. So rarer by the day.

I'd definitely recommend anyone interested to buy in the US, check out the "bring a trailer" website, drool material every day, and reasonable prices.

Lovely. I plan to build a replica to my specs one day. Originals are out of my reach.

Even thought about electric version. Ready to be shot!

Such a beautiful car - I too started with a VW Beetle, a 1971 1302LS which was a non runner when I bought it, but turned out to be a great little first car - I never made it up to a Porsche though although that 356 would be in a dream garage for sure. I would stick to the colour it is currently however, my favourite colour of that period - enjoy!
