This was the car that started my interest in Alfas. I only had the 1300 version but it was still entertaining. From memory [in 1973] I paid a trader friend £650 [£50 profit to him] and I sold it 9 months later for £900. A good deal but I wish I'd still got it! As usual, later versions were spoiled by ugly bumpers and were not genuine rhd.
As we all know Alfa lost its way in later years hitting rock bottom with the 'Arna'. The 156 rescued the brand even though it shared platforms, etc. with a Fiat.
Similarly I had to wait for the 3200 to ramp up my interest in Maserati, but in 1999, funds were not available to purchase one - although I did test drive one at Brundles near Kings Lynn.

In the 60's I was driving a Cortina 1500 super Mk2 which was tarted up with Lotus stripe and few other go faster stick ons. When I went to see the Graduate and saw that Alfa I just drooled. To put things into prospective the duetto was more expensive than an E Type. In 1967 you could buy an AC Cobra (the real one) for £2,700 and a DB6 for around £5,000
