Advice on which luxury van/ people carrier to buy pls.

Due to a doubling in the size of our family I have to find a bigger family vehicle. I'm looking for a ULEZ compliant model, and it has to be a used car with sub 60k mile. Budget around £30k.

Ideally it will have...
1.Sliding side doors
2.A couple of rear facing passenger seats ( for Mrs M to be able to tend to 2 infants on the go, while I drive.
3.High spec incl sunroof, rear cameras etc
4.Not too difficult for a relatively new driver to drive.


Any ideas for a suitable Lux Van would be most welcome.

This is a bit over budget and only a Ford, but looks like a nice place to be a passenger.

We do long drives several times a year and this took my fancy on AT.

Most are derived from vans. The VW we had when I was with the ex was a good car... she was a nanny with 3 kids in tow.

The Merc ones look good and you could always do airport runs in it to pay for the kids items.

A Volkswagen Caravelle is pretty nice. You can take the rear seats in and out, reconfigure them etc. My father in law is on his second one and it regularly gets used for group trips, carries 7 adults etc. Quite nippy, too.

Only thing to be aware of with the Caravelle is the DPF fail and completely bu**er the engine and turbos.

My father’s 2012 one is on its third new engine, 1st changed under warranty at 30k and most recent change at 75k. It’s a known issue which you only know about once it starts using oil and by then, the damage is done. Apparently an uprated DPF this time will resolve it but something to be aware of.

I wouldn’t think van derived people carriers are really very practical for a family daily, something smaller I would have thought.

Check out Toyota Alphard Executive Lounge or Royal Lounge.

Height of luxury, business class seating, Japanese engineering and reliability.

These are considered by Japanese buyers as Limos as opposed to People Carriers.

Your budget should get you a fairly young and decent spec.

Other than the little motorhomes not many van type things have rear facing seats.

Why do you have to deal with children on the move if anything comes up we would always stop and get out as I am sure most other parents do and we have a disabled son which can sometimes make it a worse but never needed rear facing seats

Our babies are 1 month and 12 months. It is difficult to tend to them both when sitting between them on the rear bench. A little extra room to navigate between them sounds a good idea if available

I too have looked into this but with way less budget as I needed something with the odd nights sleep in so had to be comfortable….

Not got anything but all my research was leaning towards the XC90….can fit a mattress in the back and seats fold flat and very comfortable to drive too

Do they come in all wheel drive so you can take it deep into the woods o_O
