A question for anyone running ball-polished GS wheels.

Has anyone running ball-polished GS wheels had them stripped and re-lacquered?

I have just a couple more contacts to follow up on, but all the usual refurbers and even the specialists seem to be running scared.

Any pointers based on experience welcomed.

If the worst comes to the worst, I may be shipping them back to BBS to have them re-polished!!

Thanks in advance...

Miles.

If you haven't already contacted them I would recommend http://www.reinventingthewheel.co.uk (Tewkesbury - they are the franchise holder - speak to Jeremy Shackleton, 01684 291900). They don't do mobile fitting, they only do complete job (take the wheel off, deflate tyre, paint booth etc etc) so you need to get the wheel to them (but they will do same day usually). They do work for a number of dealers (Audi, Bentley), fleet of vans etc and the work they did for me on 2 front wheels on my QP was excellent. Worth a phone call.

Thanks for the pointer Norman. Are you running ball-polished wheels? What did they do to your fronts?

Heard good things about DL Miles......Remember them doing a set of ball polished GS ones on a car they had at their Cardiff dealer....Saw them on the car before and then after and they looked better than new.........Worth a call..........

Miles, mine aren't ball polished but Jeremy's place deals with all types including I believe bare polishing and lacquering (yes I know b.p. aren't painted), that's why I suggested worth a phone call if no other way forward, but as other suggested later maybe DL as first point of contact.

I think DL may return their BP wheels to BBS for refurbing. That's certainly what GP Nottingham do, but I'll give them a call. Thanks guys.

Thanks Norman, I've spoken to several companies that deal with 'polished' wheel-sets, such as some of the BMW wheels, but they can't deal with the full GS wheel profile, instead they resurface the front profile on a wheel lathe, which looses the ball polish. Ball polishing isn't much heard of, as it's copyrighted by BBS I believe.

Thanks Miles. I now feel educated! And given my track record to date (scuffed two wheels in the six months I have had the car, hopefully that's the last), glad I haven't got ball polished wheels :)
