Been trying over the summer to sort some issues with the car, mainly concerned with the pedal potentiometer. Now that all issues, bar the climate control, seemed to be resolved, I figured I'd take the car to work before tucking it away into winter hibernation. After refuelling I accelerated moderately ******* the highway entrance, and on the dashboard there first showed "SLOW DOWN", and seconds later "CHECK ENGINE" followed. For a second I heard some sort of rattle, or similar, that seemed to be coming from under the bonnet, but nothing more happened and the car didn't go into limp mode.
About 15 seconds later my speed, still accelerating but now at a slower pace, necessitated an upshift, so I figured I'd press the clutch down. The clutch was very hard to press down, but when I managed to press it sunk all the way to the floor and got stuck there. I managed to get the car into sixth gear, however, and using both my feet I managed to pry the clutch pedal off the floor. I didn't touch it for the rest of the drive until I got to my highway exit, where I had to come to a full stop due to crossing traffic. I got the car out of gear, but didn't managed to get it into a new gear. After some waiting at the roadside, a colleague came and I had the car towed to my office.
Now, the clutch has less than 1,000 kilometers on it since completely replaced by Autoropa, the only certified Maserati workshop here in Sweden. The new clutch is the updated version (made by Sachs unless I'm mistaken?). The car has less than 90,000 kilometers on the odometer in total...
Would anyone care to hazard a guess as to what may be the problem here?
