I cant see this happening. They say lots of things. I remember when they said the 928 was going to replace the 911.

Maybe it might just be for racing, apparently Porsche have not done aswell as they would have liked racing and performance wise and are increasingly getting beaten by mid engine cars , one to watch out for

Watching Le Mans on Eurosport last night and in a passing phrase, the commentators mentioned that from 2014, the 911 will become mid-engined, losing the 'jump seats'. Now, whether they meant just for racing, I'm not sure.

Hope it doesn't to be honest..The current 911 is one of my fav's...It looks great in the flesh and brings the design once again up to date.......If not a bit bigger.... Porsche have a habit of making small changes that really freshen the car up...The rear in particular looks really good on the latest one.

They have done the same with the new Boxster...

Never taken to the 911. The Boxster/Cayman is great car IMHO but has never been allowed to develop it's full potential.

About time too. I have never been a fan, but mainly due to the lazy design. I appreciate what lurks beneath i descent so I think this is a good move to attract new customers.

As for existing customers, they seem little phased by the shape so it will be interesting to see if they head for the exits or stick with the marque, I suspect they will remain brand loyal.

Providing what ever they replace it with is stylish and MEGA reliable then brand followers will stick like glue , cant fault porsche for the continued german reliability even when they have been driven hard , very similar to the saab engines they love to rev , alike to the massers wonderfull high end torque band, just hang on with both hands and be prepared

Loz, don't know Porsches that well but thought they had their share of issues? One 911 model lunched it's engines and isn't the cayenne v8 liable to do the same?

Probably better than a maser but maybe perception exceeds reality?

As with all cars there are issues but and as we all issue if one happens on what is perceived to be a reliable car it's spread across all forum/chat rooms, etc and then the car is the most unreliable car in the world..............The 996 had a number issues as I recall when new but these got sorted over time...The 997 seems to be pretty strong with no major issues.......I know of 4 people who have had these and they have been nothing but perfect......A great car the 997....Yes different from a Maserati with not the same sort of passion but great all the same and as a drivers car up there as one of the best...

Fair comment Andy, just highlighting that they have not been without their problems. Agree they are a better driver's car and I admire the way they have kept the weight down which is a big help.

Porsche score pretty badly on the warranty claim value list but I am not sure if brands like Maserati are on it so it might be an unfair comment.

All Porsches seem to rot brake discs on the inner faces if they are not used and the 996/mk 1 Boxster was known for a fair number of faults. I believe that the later cars are far better though. It's just a dull brand for me though. Owned a Boxster S for a summer a while back and it drove well but was boring. Just a sports Audi.

Ohh BB, Audi are on a different level of boring ............... Must say every Porsche I've driven has excited me Boxster and 911.....Think it's because they are real driver cars......I understand that the passion isn't there like a Maserati but they have never left me feeling under changed or bored.....I think the reason some find them boring is becasue they are an everyday car and as such may not feel like an event on every journey like a Maserati maybe.....But hey thats just how I felt....
