4200CC buying advice

Hi all 4200CC owners

I am fairly close to becoming the owner of a beautiful 4200CC subject to a vehicle inspection (fingers crossed). I have a question regarding the red code key (credit card size) that should be in the owners wallet with the handbook and service log book - the car does not come with this.

I understand that this is needed by garages when they undertake work on the car. How important is it to have this key-card? What if any are the implications of not having it? Is it possible to get a duplicate/replacement from Maserati?

There is though a master code key which I believe is used for electronic and mechanical coding. Any other useful tips and advice will also be very much appreciated.

Many thanks, Simon

The silver one has two codes on it: 'Electronic' for the emergency starting procedure, and 'mechanical' which allows new keys to have the correct blade.

The red one is for the alarm. This will be a problem if you need extra keys coded for the car. You may be able to order a replacement from Maserati.

Good luck :)

Welcome Simon.

Although my 4200 came with a red key, it went several times to various Maserati dealers, both main and independent, to have work done and not once was I asked to supply it so that work could be undertaken.

Replacement cards can be sourced from the main dealer for £50 your passport and log book.

I never produced the card for service and is for emergencies and new keys only.

A Warm Welcome SimonCC.
The RED hard plastic CODE CARD is a META System HITAG card, which should carry a Bar Code and number. I think you would have to contact either Maserati or your Indie to obtain one for your car and they would need the VIN and full car details with proof of ownership.

Hi All

Thank you for your replies, all very useful info.

Unfortunately the vehicle inspection report came back ranking the car as 'below average' highlighting many defects, some potentially serious, so I ran in the opposite direction. Disappointing as the car looked very nice, but goes to show you can't judge a car just by it's good looks alone..
