Kind of how I feel about the GS surf boards Im afraid..
Is this what put you off the GS?
I like them a lot but they do go just beyond that level of purity. Good bit of aggression though.

I'd include the GS/4200 facelift bumpers in the discussion as the front is a bit too "squared off" and the back a little too busy.
IMHO they kind of work for the Coupe but less so for a Spyder. Compared to the Classico the lines lose their flow.
They are both very attractive in their own way - in my mind one is Audrey Hepburn the other is Rachel Welch. In a bikini
But one is more au naturel and I've always preferred Audrey's nicely turned ankle to Rachel's enhanced curves.

The coupe works alright in my book...
Its not about the pure unspoiled Giugiaro thing...that's Giugiaro's problem. (I just hope they paid him for it !) No, for me, if it looks right, it looks right. That doesnt mean I wouldnt prefer the boomerang lights on my 4200...! Its easy to say Maserati lost their bottle when they went all Honda Prelude...if I had any, Id have probably bought a 3200.
Perhaps im being a little hasty as I start to get conflicted about now...forced induction. Specifically, turbo...its not for me really !! Or, is it !? :D

The prices put me off Gransports! Plus the surf boards and more importantly the cutoff in the console between the info centre and the handbrake - the 4200 has a purity of line inside that the Gransport sadly doesn't. Then the 3200 dials for the air con controls - they look too 90's for a car that is ten years younger. But when you've hit a design peak (E type, 4200, even Alfa 156) any facelift / model refresh is going to be a step back... I do understand the driving appeal though, having driven both.

I would also like to add that there is definitely something about the photogenic attributes of the car(s). There’s little doubt they need careful consideration if you intend to capture their image in a complimentary light... This transcends a use of colour. A GS , in certain colours, doesn’t make a drama of the incongruous, clumsy surf boards....

It is a taste thing, I always loved the facelift front bumper on my Spyder and was glad it had a standard rear bumper as I think the facelift version is too fussy. I also am not a fan of the surf boards on the GS although they don't look so bad on the GS Spyder due to the shorter wheelbase. I agree boomerang lights would have been nice but I never had an issue with Prelude lights either.
