4200 potential F1 pump issue

I've been reading through the forum for any issues similar to mine but the few I read sound slightly different to mine.

If noticed that if I don't start the car the right way then the windscreen wipers and the indicators don't work. If I switch off and try again it's all ok. This morning I started the car fine, went to get fuel tried to start the car again it turned over but didn't fire up. I waited a few minutes then tried again and nothing. Switched the power off in the boot and nothing. Thankfully on the second attempt it fired up...phew!!!

I took it for a run and when I got home I switched it off then back on again and it was all fine. I switched the alarm on then disarmed it using the key fob. I noticed the F1 pump doing its thing. I repeated the arm and disarm process but couldn't hear the pump. Also I notice the pump come on when I open the drivers door but this appears to have stopped too.

Does it sound like the relay or the actual pump or something completely different?

Dont know about the other issues but on 2 occasions, I have found my wipers and indicators not to be working when I have gone to use them. Switch off and back on again and everything is back to normal. I now do a quick pre-flight flick before setting off.

Would be interested in any further info on this myself.

Tinman,
this could be a relay, or even such as the brake pedal switch that needs adjusting. You should hear the pump when you open the drivers door, if not, it has not had the command to charge the system? Check that all the relay contacts are clean and well fitted, also check relative fuses are clean?
best of luck!

Opinion in reverse order....

The pump only fires if there is a need for pressure in the system. If you open the driver's door, and the pump comes on and primes, then you close it and open it again quickly afterwards, there won't have been enough time for the pressure to drop, meaning the pump won't need to come on. The same applies when you blip the central locking.
So the question is, how soon are you repeating your 'test'? I don't think this is anything other than normal, but it probably depends on that interval.

Wipers and indicators: I wonder if this is similar to an issue I've noticed which I *think* is due to a poor ish battery. If I wait too long after all the warning lights have gone out, my HVAC (probably) won't work. What I *think* is happening is the various ECU's are booting. They get to a point, and then the drop in voltage caused by turning the car over causes them to screw up the completion of boot. Starting sooner *seems* to mean that the ECU's in question simply start again. This is only a theory, though. I don't have any decent way of validating it, but again I doubt it's anything to do with your starting issues. (Although if anyone else has got an idea, I'm really not going to be arguing) :)

So why doesn't the car start? Is this the first time it's happened?
Does the CODE key stay on on the dash?
I think the general view of these kinds of issues are TDC sensor, amongst other things. Does it start fine when cold?

Brake pedal stops the engine from turning, does it not?

Thanks all.

I had a new battery fitted over a week ago so I don't think it's down to a weak battery.

The problem may have been down to waiting too long after the lights went out on the dash to start the car. With foot on the brake and waiting to the lights in the centre console e.g. Sport msp etc go out then firing up immediately after that then it starts first time. Since following that procedure I haven't had the problem.

That's the correct procedure and it should start every time, if it is a battery issue you will know, it will start to click rapidly..!!
