4200 front sub frame removal.

Having completely stripped the front suspension on my car it occurred to me that now might be the time to remove the front sub frame. I can see all the bolts that attach it to the car but the question is this. Do the bolts go into captive nuts in the chassis legs or are there ordinary nuts on the other end of the bolts that I can't see at the moment. The last thing I need is to shear a bolt or round off one of the cap heads that hold the thing in place. Hoping someone can provide the answers.

The subframe bolts go into captive nuts or tapped holes in the shell.

Mine all came off without shearing or rounding off, so hopefully you will be as lucky.

The main thing to consider is supporting the engine while the frame is out, I used an engine crane as well as a jack from underneath.

Also there is a bush that’s on the near side to locate the frame on the shell, this could be rusted in and hard to shift.

Once you have it off the car get it blasted and check how much metal is left, my front one was scrap

Thanks for that it's what I thought. Fingers crossed then for easy bolt removal
