Hi Guys - bit of a long post, but stay with me!!

I have been having some problems with my climate control in the last few weeks which may or may not have been connected with a rather over enthusiastic valeter power washing the life out of my engine bay after my recent service.
Anyway, the system either wouldn't power up when starting the car so that the air con controls remained grey on the info centre and turning any of the three knobs wouldn't make any difference. The sat nav, phone and audio would all work though.

On other occasions, I would be driving along with the air con system fully functional and then the fan would start blowing full speed then back down and then full speed again, doing this every 5 seceonds or so!

Over the weekend I took every single fuse and relay out of the car in the fuse box under the passenger footwell, and cleaned the prongs. I took apart the two main earth leads located just above the fuse box and cleaned them too.

Even after doing this, I still had a couple of times when the system didn't boot up when starting the car.

Lost for anything else I could do, I pressed both the air re-circulation and air con "econ" buttons together and held them down for a count of 3. This had the effect of switching the outside temp display on the dash to "AA" then "CC" and then scrolled through "E6" and then "F3" up to "F9".....

I restarted the car and all was well with the climate control. I pushed both buttons again and I only had "AA" and "CC" come up.
Since then, I have done several journeys of varying length all trouble free..

The qustion is, has any one any idea what I did when pressing the two button? It is almost as though it has totally reset the system and the E and F numbers where perhaps telling me some reset or error codes along the way??

I have heard one or two others having the greyed out info centre before, but I have never found an answer to how it was cured.

Any thoughts anyone??

Regards

David
