Yep, if you double everything you could be right.

Of course the systems may well be different as well, even if the keys are the same. The 4200 has no red key, and now I think about it, you can add the new *remote* with a working key. It's the CODE system that needs the SD2.

Looks like you have some work to get the alarm control out as well. Would be even cheaper to simply drop in an after market with remote central locking output.

Fuse changed and mrs out again on the school run. No dampness in the fuse box area at all. Fingers crossed!!!!

I think I will need to grab a few spares at this rate lol!

Ok update.

So driven car this morning and no loss of indicators etc... I stripped both black keys down, measured continuity and checked all soldering joints. Clean everything up and hey presto one of the keys now unlocks and locks the car! Happy as Larry!!!!

Even cheaper!

Assuming that the alarm is the same as the early 4200, a couple of possibilities to try: If the fob is pressed > 16 times (I think) out of range of the car, the car will stop responding. If this has happened to your 'broken' gob it can be fixed by pressing twice, rapidly, near the car.

Secondly new remotes can be added to the car by repeatedly locking and unlocking the car and watching for the alarm LED to do something different (double blink if I recall). Then any remotes you press will be added.

The exact process is on line, and I can dig it out if you want to have a try?

Thanks C I have got that one bookmarked and it is in the manual so will give it a whirl later. To be honest I'm happy to have one working at the moment :)

It is little things with these cars.

Here is my snag list now! 5 is crossed of the list thankfully.

1) Diagnose and Fix Check Engine light which comes on after a short drive and will not go out once the car is up to temperature. A throttle reset makes the light go out and car runs normal for a little time. Contactless TB was recently fitted and has been tested under WOT, cold start, warm start condition on the mechanic’s car and there we no CEL’s.

2) Cambelt and Annual Service. I assume thermostat and water pump are included in the Cambelt change? Please check condition of rear cam chain in situ.

3) Check condition of Brake Pipes/Hoses as been advised they are corroding.

4) Check Both Radiators for any damage. Are they safe until next service?

5) Determine why the key remote button does not work on any key despite changing both batteries in the black keys. When using the key to open the car the red led on the dash remains lit and flashing even though the car is running. Is this normal? Has the alarm silencer been removed in the past?

6) When the car is started there is an “E” character displayed in the DIS. After about 30 seconds the outside airtemp is displayed correctly. Is the aux fan on its way out or is the thermometer in the wing mirror housing intermittent?

7) Boot Switch release doesn’t open the boot despite the fuel filler release switch working and they are on the same fuse?

6) is quite possibly the external air sensor, but (again assuming it's like the 4200) there's a number of other reasons. My 4200 will always go E if i hit recirc, or it decides to go into recirc (for example when cooling the interior down rapidly on a hot day) It also does it on cold mornings. There's a self test of the air direction flaps and the theory is that when cold, whatever grease / dust / roadgrit mixtures is left on the actuating gears gets thick, and the increased drain on the motors triggers the failure.
Again, on the 4200 there is a way of getting the error code: Press and hold econ and recirc buttons until 'AA' appears on the display. It will then cycle 'AA' number 'AA' number and so on. Each number representing a discrete code.
Sadly there is no list that I've been able to find that tells what these codes *are*. I am >99% sure that 55 is the flap 'failure'.
7) Nope don't think they are on the same fuse (again assuming 4200 similarity). There is a known weakness of that switch unit in the glove box which makes them fail. Quick test would be to bridge the wires manually.

Thanks C. Mine flags and E with all controls set to off. It then displays correctly the external temp. Air con blowers seem to work albeit not very efficiently. Someone on another webpage wrote: "The WARNING "E" letter displayed for a few seconds (when starting the engine and before the external temperature is displayed) indicates a malfunction in the ventilation and heating unit. You should contact your nearest Maserati dealer as soon as possible to remove the failure."

6) yes I saw there was a diagnostic check to do.

7) Manual says that it is fuse 10 which is both the fuel filler and boot release.

Dude that is *brilliant*

The fuse on the 4200 is in the boot, and indeed shared. I think I *meant* to suggest it was, but....

Be worth checking the switch, as clearly the fuse is good :)

Ran the diagnostic check and it came back with code E2. What that means in terms of sensor to replace I don't know.

I checked the fuse box/relays in the luggage compartment and they are different from the ones in my manual. Different in location!

16 I think. There's a relay that triggers the release (on a 4200. Can we just take this as read now? ;) )

As for Sensor SA I'd like to suggest it stands for Senor Ambiente, but it would be a *wild* guess. I wonder, having got this far, one of our friendly Indys might provide the missing key?

No C I've got all three keys including the red master :D

Thrrrrp!

You know (I presume) that I meant the key to the problem :) Actually a quick google indicates that 'sensore ambiente' may not be that far from the truth.

Oooh nice one, Danny. That's deffo the internal temp sensor, which makes sense. Although I suspect there's more than one as there are >1 error codes.

Don't suppose you'd like a crack a translating the other acronyms / initialisms, would you?
