Hi
Had the car or the ramp sorting out the ride height and noticed there isn't a cover over the towing eye,it is open to the elements including rust!
i posed the question with McGraths no 3200s at present in the workshop but a few 4200s all 3 were minus covers.
so is this a Maserati thing? I have looked through the parts manual as yet nothing
any ideas
G.

Very rare to see them and 99.9% of them need the tow eye retapping. Some guys on here have created a threaded bung for them when not using or most 3200 drivers leave the tow eye in all the time as they are frequently used.

Cant say I have noticed on mine. I know the towing eye is in the tool kit, but not sure where the eye is. Which side looking at the front? I'll go and look.

I've never had a cover, periodically I put some 3in1 oil on the towing eye and screw it in/out to try and prevent the rust.

Yes there is a cap on the lower right side of the front bumper. As I say most are missing and the main reason the towing eye won't go in is because the thread becomes corroded.

My GS towhook was bent about 3-4 cm from threaded tip - as the female part is, I believe (is this right?) at an angle to the fore-aft midline of car I assume it had not been able to be inserted fully (due to rust) and then the offset force of a tow had caused it to bend in the threaded portion. Annoying to discover at the point at which you need it so worth keeping female thread clean and checking the hook hasn't been damaged

The GT has the same style towing eye on the offside but has a rubber bung to cover which is attached the plastic bodywork in the grille section - a better solution as it won't fall out and get lost

I will find an appropriate sized rubber bung.

Just found a leaky rear shock and of course NLA so it is heading over to David A to be refurbished
one day i will finish this project and actually drive somewhere!

Is oil on dipstick at top? My oil light comes on as soon as oil gets towards lower end, usually after I have driven somewhere, stopped for a short time (i.e. fuel station) then restarted, as oil is still in engine not in sump.

I've had a Delrin threaded bung made that I leave in, not needed to use the towing eye ever... I've had the car three years! Only looked at it because I've done track days and it's a requirement... Funny how these GTS owners change isn't it... Lol

You may laugh but I've seen two or three with the tow eye actually in the car when nowhere near a track! :D I'm still a 3200 owner mate!

Was it not a belief that the oil light would come on after so many times, if you had not opened the bonnet? Mine doesn't but I'm sure I have heard it mentioned.
