Chris and "spkenyuk" Maserati 3200GT August,year 2000
Has SD2 electronics.
The modules are: Nokia Type HF-5 (OW3HF-5) The module which caused the trouble is unbranded, dated 9/06 with a serial #6101086. It appears to be a signal receiver since it has a short wire aerial. Has a power supply & a twenty-pin outlet. Trust this helps.
Interesting! Apologies for repetative questions, but I'm hoping you may have an answer to my problem. Do you have a 16 pin Data Link Connector (DLC) to your ECU? Also could you confirm your main ECU (RHS of driver's footwell) looks similar to this picture i.e. it doesn't have OBD in its designation. Many thanks for your help. Cheers Chris

The nokia bit of kit is from a HF5 handsfree system. There would have been at least 2 other leads / modules that would have plugged into that when it was fully installed. Small red plastic block with 2 iso pass through connectors for the stereo so that sound from phone calls would come out of the car speakers.

You then would have had one or both connections for a powered phone craddle and or a wired remote for phone functions.

The 2nd module you have with a serial #6101086 . The only thing i can think of that would fit your description is either some sort of keyless entry that has been added or bluetooth streaming device that has either been taped into the phone system or stereo at some point.

I cant see any reason why any of those apart from possibly a keyless entry system would be able to cause rogue CEL light /codes.

If you have or can get a picture of the unbranded module will see if i recognise it or anybody else does.

Chris,
Definitely not OBD. I use SD2 diagnostics to clear CEL's.
The mystery module may be keyless entry. I have never used keyless system,so I can't verify that guess. Could also be bluetooth module, most likely.

I was afraid you would say that. I have had a CEL on my car now for 10 months I have tried every scanner available to me locally in Newcastle: no joy. I did see that you had successfully used Leonardo software/tool to clear your fault codes and talk to the ECU, is this available on the Web, or as a download; as my next and final resort is the Artarmon Ferrari mechanic and a car transport.

Chris, The Leonardo is a serious piece of kit, will set you back A$20k. +. I doubt you will find any diagnostic tool with SD2 anywhere but a high priced item used by professionals. However there is some Unidiag files available on this forum which I have used for routine diagnosis & clearing of CEL's. Are you aware of this ?

I am some what intrigued by this problem. My car responds to most ODBII readers over KWP2000 protocol and yet some owners can't get anything to work. You would have thought the underlying CAN bus structure would not have changed that much over the years of production.
I have a copy of the unidiag software on my web site you can download at www.maserati3200.net.

Many thanks, yes, I have seen many reports of members using the unidiag software on a laptop, to talk to the 3200 but most of the threads were for the earlier (pre 2000) cars with the 3 pin set-up, and as my car has the 16 pin DLC I didn't think it worth pursuing. Notwithstanding, it is starting to emerge that my car being a Dec 2000 car may still use SD2/3 protocols instead of EOBD/OBDII and although it has a 16 pin connector that is about all the difference between it and the early cars. I understand those 3200 after the end of 2000 use the OBDII protocols.
I have been unable to find a cct diagram of my car, as the factory manual i have shows the original 3 pin set up, and it doesn't appear amendments were published to explain changes to the diagnostic systems. I did contact Maserati on this issue, but they merely referred me to authorised repairers: so I'm back where I started.

Thank you very much for your comments and help. As per my response to MRichards I would suspect your car is manufactured in 2001 or 2002, when it is emerging that the CAN bus protocols changed from Fiat to a Ferrari or EOBD compatible system. Just my luck I missed it by a month! Undeterred, I will try your kind offer of the Unidiag software.

I am planning to spend a little time this week getting unidiag to talk to my car using a standard ELM 327 USB lead, I will let you know how that goes, but seems to me no reason why not.
Many thanks, I hope you have success and are able to forward the hardware and software set-up to enable communication, reading, and interpretation of fault codes. Anything you can advise greatly appreciated. Regards Chris

Good afternoon Davy83, I have followed the link to your website, and am embarking on obtaining an adaptor (16 pin - USB) as per the link provided. Once I have one I'll follow your diretions to try and communicate with my Dec 2000 version of our car. Again many thanks, great website and some really useful options and advice. Kind regards,
Chris
