3200 oil leaks

Hi all,

After the starter motor failed (a Bosch refurbished version) and The top all stripped back I thought I'd look into the oil leak and change the cambelt...

I thought it was the oil pump or front crank seal but now I'm in there it doesn't look like either and I'm struggling to see where it's coming from. My worst fear is that it's the block gasket but it could be dropping and spreading (hopefully). The cam cover gasket was leaking and I'm wondering if this is residue and or the job not done properly in the first place.

Has any one seen this before;

My advise is to get it well cleaned and inspect it periodicaly to locate the source of the leak.
You can use one of those cheap usb micro cameras to inspect in tight quarters without taking stuff apart.

very difficult to say but it for sure not a large leak,

you have to clean it and go for a run and see you can identify the source. Good luck!

Once you have it cleaned and de-greased, put some talc on the area where you think the leak might be, it'll show up much sooner and help pinpoint the source.

Thanks chaps; I have a USB camera but left it at work!

A Halfords inspection mirror was bought today and it looks to be coming from the front cam pulley cover gasket - I'll make sure its all very clean for reassembly and check at the next cam belt change. A list of parts has been drawn up and so far come in at a whopping £725 from Eurospares... That includes cam belt, pulleys and every gasket/o ring/seal under the sun! I also need all the lower turbo inlet hoses and recirculating valves (one is damaged internally) but will source those elsewhere. I'm just glad I can do all this as the labour would push this to over £2k.
