Hi

Need some advice please. My 3200 fuel vapour smell has returned inside the car. The story goes that when I bought it I noticed it and the Ferrari Centre in Maidstone fixed it. Well not exactly it turrns out. It returned again some months later so I took advice on SM and was guided to the boot to check clips on the fuel hoses. I did this and even replaced one of Maserati's traditional clips with a better jubilee clip on what I thought was the suspect hose. I then took her to Le Mans this year and did 1000 miles without a whiff of fuel in the cabin so problem solved. Now its back and I wanted to ask if I should be pulling the back seat out and checking on that side of the tank ? Or is the problem still in the boot area ? On visual inspection there are no obvious weaping hoses so I am blind as to which is the culprit. Please advise as I want to have a go at this tomorrow if in my realms of DIY. If not she'll have to go to Maser hospital. I want to smell leather not petrol !!

Regards
Paul

Hi Paul ,

that's a pain - thought you had it sorted . when I did mine I replaced all the clips on the vapour release side with jubilees- bit of a pain but it did the job , I think where the hoses age the factory clips don't work as well .

cheers

Hi

Thanks..Yes I thought I had solved it but its back. At least I know its in the boot area so its a case of bending myself into some painful body positions to have another go. Failing that its off to the garage. I did replace one of the old clips for a Jubilee !

I did all of mine , as I saw the way the pipes had shrunk a tad and thought the factory clips were just waiting to fail - worth a go for the time and cost - probably a bit hot to get in the boot today though , especially with the colour of yours !

I'm trying to fix this on mine right now and struggling to find the source of the leak into the cabin, I've taken the fuel filter off, undid the tank to give me an extra inch but the only smell I can find is the fuel filter itself. Did you change the the clips on the fuel filler as well as the anti-vapour /roll over cut off pipes? that is all pipes on both sides of the tank? There was me thinking this would be a 30 min job lol

When I had a 3200 the fuel filter has a small weep when engine running, this was from the screwed connection on the top, cued it with new copper washer & PTFE tape. worth checking?

That could be worth a check, I've replaced all the clips with jubliees, if that hasn't cured it I'll give that a whirl.

Update

I have had all the fuel hose clips in the boot replaced with tank in. I have also ordered a new filler cap just to eliminate that. Its on test now and the cabin is airing out as it was quite bad. We are not sure if it has done the trick yet but I will know tomorrow when I stick my nose in it. Should it still be apparant then the tank is coming out. Please advise what other hoses / clips are on the blind side of the tank ?

Hi Robert

Thanks. Drove her yesterday and all seemed ok. I am hoping job done. Good advice to all owners, change all hose clips coming to and from tank. A mystery problem as exact culprit not found. Will check on her tomorrow and will know as soon as I sit in if its gone or not. Annoying when you can't find the problem. The joys of 3200 ownership:)
