Sound terrible, i believe its the original. What are the other choices you reckon? What size should I be looking for? It is not the Becker head unit anymore.

Thanks.

I fitted a set of Focal Performance 6.5" splits in the front and 5x9" in the rear with a small JBL amp in the boot... the difference is spectacular but you must pay attention to the fitting. I used Dynamat and acoustic foam matting on the doors to kill off all the unwanted resonance and it made a big difference.

Neil, yes, Focal and JL are about as good as it gets, Rudy, offer Dem some money for his Becker GP, its still sitting in his boot by the sound of it. Its more powerful, fits the OEM style and has bluetooth phone kit built in with separate mic.

The issue you will still have are the cavities. Some cars just seem to struggle to get any descent sound out of them, same as an Alfa GTV. The enclosures just arnt stiff enough or have holes and gaps and just don't lend themselves to sound, with the bass seeping away.

I can second the Becker GP as a great choice if you don't want something with flashing lights and whistles. I put one in mine and as Matt says it looks OEM, has bluetooth and can control an iPod with an optional cable.

It took me 4 days to get the enclosures sealed and dampened to my satisfaction. The speakers have a natural sounding bass with lots of complexity and tone. Setting crossover points and tweeter gain is important to get a nice seamless transition from lows to highs and I used MDF baffles, a lot of Dynamat and lined the door in acoustic insulation... its not perfect but as good as it can get without going completely over the top.

My local audio installer wanted to charge me $1200 to do the work but with time and patience you can do it yourself if you are reasonably handy with small tools. All the required knowledge is out there on the web so a couple of days research pays dividends.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge about the Becker GP...is that just a head unit with or without CD playing? I searched the web, can't seem to see the features....

Becker Grand Prix is a single CD head unit with bluetooth and a rear plug for connecting a CD stacker or iPod. They are not easy to find these days although some stores in Germany and Switzerland seem to stock them.
