hi guys,

my 3200 has always had a faulty thermostat (stuck open) so my temp stayed at mostly 70 (90 in traffic)

i have now fitted a new thermostat, while moving constantly it sits just under 90 and while driving around town, it sits at just over 90 with the fan cutting in and out, now i wonder is this correct? like driving around town in mixed driving, few mins at traffic lights etc, its sitting just over 90 with the fans cutting in and out keeping it around 90/just over, and in traffic it seems to around 95

so my question is - is this right? as i thought it would stick mostly at 90 and fans only cut in if in traffic but mine seem to be even if moving (note once actually going at a constant 30mph+ it stays at just under 90 and fans dont cut in)

Mine sits at 90 in traffic or driving like a loon. Normal cruising at legal speeds, about 80-85. I've never seen it go higher than 90.

I should add that I tend to have the AC on cold all the time, so that may help as the fans are on regularly because of that.

The fans on mine only cut in at 90, when I'm on a constant run regardless of speed the temperature never goes above 90. Once in traffic they constantly come on & then off when the temperature cools down.

Would seem OK, strategy for temperature is first fan should cut in at 90 and and second if temperature reaches 95, fans cut out when temperature reduces by 7 degrees. Fan can also be activated by AC unit outside of these ranges.

I think my stat isn't all that , quite often around 80 but doesn't seem to go above 90 , are both your fans working ?

Mine pretty much did exactly that and never caused any problems & didn't use any water either

Mine sits at 90 (well 190 as it is in F) only under very hard hooning and whilst sat in traffic.

60 mph on a hot day it sits between the two so around 75. This is a 1 year old stat.

Mine is pretty much as yours but bear in mind that outside temp. in summer over here is 32-33 degree C

I would guess this is also due to a (slightly open) thermostat and wind speed at 60mph cools the engine to this lower temperature (the oil cooler has no thermostat). The water thermostat should open at 85 degrees celsius.
However due to a shortage of the 3200er 85° thermostat some sources sell the QP 3200engine with 80degrees opening tempertures as usable for the 3200 as well, as it has the same body, so that could be also the case when the thermostat had been already replaced.
In general higher engine temp has lower emission, but less "buffer". Also for some cars there are versions for hot and cold countries (higher opening temp) otherwise heating doesnt get hot enough.
Important is that the temperature doesn`t got too cool again, so that the ECU switches to cold start mode (or doesn`t come out) and injects again too much fuel

more fuel makes sense if there is enough oxigen to burn, otherwise it just cools th ecylinder walls, washes the oil from them or heats the cat..
