So I haven't been around much of late but I have decided to attack some things on the the car that are bugging me.

First up was the non working tachometer. Looking through the paperwork with the car there was an invoice that noted that the ecu was sending the signal, so out it came and off to an instrument repairer. (Cheers to all who post the how-to's on this site, very helpful!)

Whist it was out the I fixed steering column shroud, which had the rubberized coating going gooey and sticking to everything! All the rubberized coating was wet sanded off, and satin black paint sprayed on, sanding with 1000 grit between each coat. It also had a crossed thread on the brass inserts which had to be re-tapped.

The cluster had a blown capacitor replaced and now works great!

The next job is the diff fill plug. It had a small drip, wipe it clean and after a few hundred km's it would be back. Get under to loosen and replace copper seal, what I beleived was the culprit. First half turn goes well, then it binds. Unfortunately the threads were damaged. I tried working it out but to no avail, the threads in the casing were stripped, and the threads on the plug were rolled over. So out came the diff. I pulled the rear off the diff to replace the gasket while its out, wire brushed the bolts and had re-blackened. I thread filed the thread in the diff casing, as only the first 12mm was damaged, and since the thread is approx 30mm deep I will modify the diff plug, as the thread on it is unusable either way. To repair the diff plug I have turned up some new thread (M20 x 1.5) and faced the hex. Next is weld the two together and re-zinc, the aim being for a longer thread to engage on the remaining good thread, but with a stock external appearance, not that anyone will ever see it haha!
