2008 QPV - any ideas what this switch may be for?

lol - well I’ve ruled out ejector seat

As far as I can tell it does nothing, I looked for a unit behind or near the number plate and there is nothing there, it doesnt seem to change throttle response (although for a while I convinced myself it did) and the exhausts are not valved so it’s not that either. So the mystery continues until I delve under the dashboard and trace the wiring - but it’s been too cold and miserable for me to do that yet!

Well it’s taken me 15 months to discover what this switch actually does and sadly it’s not a throttle controller

Ever since I bought the car I have been unable to use the 6 disk CD changer due to what I thought was a very odd fault, with the ignition on but engine off it works fine and plays the CDs but once the engine is running the CD would still show on the central display as playing and would count down the time of the song and change tracks but there would be no sound!

It turns out that this switch mutes the CD changer when the engine is running, switch it one way no sound from the CD changer, switch it the other and hey presto we have music !

I have no idea why it has been installed, it doesn’t cut the power to the CD changer just mutes it. The only thing I can think of is that the car has a Parrot Bluetooth hands free system installed this mutes the radio / integral CD player when there is a phone call but maybe it cannot mute the CD changer ???

Anyway 1.5 years into the ownership of the car I can now use the CD changer :thumb3:
