Beau and I had an offline discussion as I had an hunch the car I how have a deposit on was going to come up.

He seemed a bit throttle body obsessed after viewing this car, so maybe that's a fault.

He also wanted to do a px.

The truth is that there is no such thing as a cheap 3200. All those that cost less need work or have far greater issue for work because stuff has not been done.

That is why, in reality, mine is great value. :)

hi, yeah this is the one i was going up to buy, i was paying around £7000.

the issues with it are:
the cambelt was last done 30,000 /6 years ago
it has a intermitant CEL warning, throttle body not yet refurbed
fault on suspension
cam chains not done
worn interior
bubbled up leather on drivers airbag
aircon dont work

i was allowing £2000 to spend on it

£7k is cheap - only about £1500 off its value as a breaker! You could probably sort most of that for about £1200 (excluding chains), but £2k probably not far off by the time you allow for a service and a couple of unknowns:

the cambelt was last done 30,000 /6 years ago: £400.
it has a intermitant CEL warning, throttle body not yet refurbed: £400 refurb.
fault on suspension: £150 used actuator (assuming one only).
cam chains not done: Most likely ok.
worn interior: Depends what it needed, but some Liquid Leather recoloniser for circa £20 would probably clean it up a treat....did this on my old Audi.
bubbled up leather on drivers airbag: £5 glue and half an hour of patience!
aircon dont work: Hmm, not sure. Depends on fault. Not working at all, or not blowing cold? Perhaps a new compressor, but possibly just a regas at £60 or so.

My suspension issue that I had on my car required:

2 sessions on an SD2 - £120
A suspension ECU - £190
An Actuator- £195
2 new phonic rings £300 fitted because you need a ramp.

So that's £805 on one thing.

if the maserati is only a weekend /3rd car then parts (ebay)/work (yourself) can be done cheaper but if this is not the case then a cheap 3200 is a false economy

that car at £7000 was worth it, i was ready to go and buy it until someone else did.

but it doesnt sound like any faults have been rectified but the price has risen £2000, so not worth it.

Always best to have a war chest with these cars. If you can only just afford the car, then you can't actually afford the car.....!

So many things irritate me with that advert I don't know where to start! Although advert states the current seller has owned it for several years it reads like a dealer advert - not sure this is Aldo. Amongst many other inaccuracies.....FSH is not 5 stamps on a 12 year old 3200 and osm eof those options were never available! Reduced from £14995 - aye right...

Sounds like there are a few clueless to55ers out there who are trying to make a fast buck on these cars.

They will be bought by people with Mondeo money burning a hole in their pockets who have no knowledge of the care and cost required to keep the car in good condition. The only saving grace is that there should be a decent supply of used spares when these fools wrap them around a tree or the car suffers from engine/transmission/suspension failure!

MAF.......I have no doubt you're spot on, but some people will do anything to turn a quick buck or make a profit when by rights they should be making a huge loss.

Thats were this forum comes to the fore and even if we help 1/2/3 people a year from buying a dog or money pit then an important part of what we are about has been fulfilled.

As someone said above....if they can just afford to buy it, then they sure as h3ll can't afford to look after it!
