156 exhaust

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but after a pointer...
6 years ago I was asked by a mate to recommend a decent second hand car for £3k... He's not a petrol head, and didn't really know what was best. So I convinced him, with good reason, to look at a 156... The one he ended up buying was a 53 plate low mileage car for less than the £3k budget.
Suffice to say, he and his wife f'kin love it. So much so, they have bought a kitchen rather than replace the car 6 years on. So... To the question I have... It needs an exhaust... Where is the best and cheapest place to go to get one in the central South, near Basingstoke ideally? I'd like him to keep loving the car without parting with a fortune as he's decided to keep it for at least another couple of years...

Does it have to be a replacement ie stock silencer? My mate fabricates them, let me know Ian

Depends what he is after, most specialists can get the standard one. After market you are looking Ragazzon or Wizard exhausts, some of them sound really nice. Or you could do a me (look at tonoights update on the sister site on my 33 thread) and get a custom made stainless. Got a ca back on my 156, and a full system on the 33 :)

Think the 2003 has the two cats in the down pipe, would get rid of them as you got the main cat in the middle ;)

When you look at the cost of OEM kit it makes no sense to replace it. For me there was no insurance premium hike and I get a car that sounds ten times better.

I don't know Phil, it has has a fair bit of welding done to it, so it'd be a full system that needs replacing. His priority will be cost, so what can he expect to pay?

What is wrong with it? Is it the centre section which has gone? Do you want to get him to pop it down to my mate in Newbury? All thr pipe work is fabricated at his place .

Interesting, the opposite of how I went because I just knew that removing the pre-cats would cause all sorts of emission related problems.

My V6 is a CF2, no pre cats as from standard, funnily enough fails on emissions every year. Thank gawd I have a awesome alfa specialist in Bristol that gets it through every year ;)

Don't know how the mot station puts up with the noise though, she is bleeding loud ;)

Possibly, he's getting a quote from the bloke that does his servicing, but I'm asking on here so I can let him know if what he's told is realistic or whether he's being taken for a ride... So to speak ;-)

Obviously, if the price is right, he'd be giving someone some work ;-)
