i spose it is a car you get or dont get, some just think it is a box on wheels whereas i regard it as the best hot hatch ever and best rally car ever, won the world rally championship 6 times in a row.

yes Adam, but a rally & the car you will drive on the road are two completely differnt animals. hardly worth the comparison.......you could say the same about loads of cars.

Yes you could, for example, a citroen C4, very successful in the mountains yet probably one of the dullest drives of your life.

I had an integrale Evo 1, always wanted one as I loved everything about them, that is, everything I had ever read about them.

Then I bought one.

Don't get me wrong, it was fun, but in a suicidal way. I've never driven anything apart from a Citroen Visa that felt more likely to kill me at the first hint of an accident, they buckle the roof if they get a very light impact on the nose, this is not a robust motor car!! The difference being the Visa couldn't go fast enough to have an accident, and the 'grale just encouraged you to drive it like you stole it. After a memorable dice with a Lancer Evo VI I thought about my family and sold it. Ownership time was four weeks from memory.

Thinking about it the grale was a bit of a one-trick pony, it wasn't actually very fast in a straight line, but you just didn't have to slow down for corners. Trouble with corners is that thorny issue of what lies around them, exploiting the car's cornering limits is rarely feasible on UK roads, and then you get some snotter Astra stuck up your exhaust pipe because it's faster on the straight bits!!

I'm glad I had it, and more glad I sold it.

That's exactly what I thought!!

Mind you I also thought that with my TR6, 308, 900T16s, 3200GT, XJC..... 40 odd cars in 19 years and I still struggle to keep one for lng, somehow there's always something else to try!!!

Limitless funds and garage space then I warrant you, I'd have a grale just to represent Grp ... or er.. may be a 205 T16 oo... um I mean RS 200...

Where's your £1m thread???? !!!

A guy I was at college with used to smoke around in an 037, stunning piece of kit. He never did let me have a go. Looked good in the college car park though.

It was an "interesting" place - it was the mid 90's, London, lots of Russians with lots of money of dubious origin, I lost count of the Astons and Lamborghini's that appeared in the car park. The 037 guy at least had some taste!

I seem to recall one of the students taking delivery of an M3 convertible a few hours before he converted it in to a submarine by crashing through the bridge in Hyde Park and nose-diving it in to the Serpentine.

I, of course, was a model student... (and considerably poorer than the rest!).

Georgian mafia mainly, money laundering and narcotics were blatant the cars were all part of the ML I suspect. At least one student was deported for illegal possession of a firearm. Strangely he was back a few weeks later, no palms greased there then.

Strictly speaking they were students of a separate institution that shared our campus in the middle of Regent's Park.

It was quite an education for a bumpkin like me ;o)
