What happened to your avatar ???? Your wife looks lovely though.
Was getting too many pm’s from frustrated housewive’s of forum members.
Still working my way through them and trying to sort out zoom time slots etc. ;)
Yeah, she looked ok, pity she went out in her dressing gown tho.

I would emigrate in a heartbeat. Well would take a couple, but you get the idea.

Except
Parents
Mrs C's idea of fun
European Road trips
English countryside

Pretty much in that order.

And I wouldn't pick France. Not because I don't like France, I love it, it's just that if I was going to go I'd go about as far as you can without starting to come back the other way

C

More or less likewise. I've lived in Asia as a child and have in a previous life been 'encouraged' to move to SA, a move which I declined due to not enjoying being robbed at gunpoint in my own home. In more recent years have given serious thought to both Dubai and Singapore. And then the olds got a bit older and creakier, and it occurred to me that pre-batflu I was mostly away from home anyway so it was more or less irrelevant where I lived because I went where I needed / wanted to at the drop of a hat.

If no-one I cared about existed I'd live in an opium and sex den somewhere in SE Asia. Would I be worried? **** no, and I'm not now. Peeved yes, but not worried.

Fc, I believe opium is a depressant,......so i’m Up for 1 out of 2 if you find somewhere.
I’d like to retain my jolly outlook on life.

Theyre all at it. I’m continuously amazed how the Tory party has lasted so long. Seems to be an entry requirement “are you prepared to stab the party leader in the back?” Yes, well come on in make yourself at home, pointy sticks and knives are on the table in the corner.
Whereas the labour party have organised back stabbing between 'Corbynites' aka communists and Blairites aka tories.
As for Lib Dems, its difficult to stab yourself in the back.
UKIP cannot afford a knife so just keep putting a foot in their mouth.

I did emigrate
To Australia in the 70's to be with some family.
Could not get a job (a brief spell as sampler for Resch's Brewry)
Strikes every day sometimes twice a day
The rise of Murdoch's lies
Poor housing
Anti Pom feelings
I could go on. It did not work for me (us) and we returned to Blighty
My Brother is still there having lived most of his adult life there. It worked for him

Respect though, you took a chance and followed a path.

I've tried Denmark, was ok but not me, bit boring, Ireland, I do like, but not supercar-friendly and generally expensive. Now nominally Luxembourg, liking it so far COVID permitting.

In Denmark I wanted to fit in and learn Danish (free lessons) but it was impossible, since everyone and I mean everyone spoke perfect English. Ireland is like UK 2.0 but so far LU/BE is a nice mix of being a nice place and and being a challenge, since French is the main language and you need to speak some at least which is the challenge part for me.

Je me casse....

A day out and more interesting responses.
@daverichardson were you a £10 Pom.
When I went to NZ in 14 straight in as a permanent resident due to my Automotive qualifications I was seen by many as just another fúcking pom and in my first workplace it was hard for a few months.
Glad to have tried it and Ms French still has a house there so we have options but 99% sure we won't be going back.

No mate
My brother was, I went in 1979 (I think) and that scheme had ended
Like everything, some Australians were good and a pleasure to be with. Others were not.
In the 70's and early 80's the politics were tough with a lot of Union influence, hence the strikes etc.
We stayed about 9 months and called it a day. My only regret is we never took the opportunity to visit 'nearby' NZ!

I love Ireland even with the extra expense and the children absolutely adore it - happy to pay a bit more in daily expenses as that is more than offset by the house price differential. Smaller house and mortgage in the UK too much bigger and no mortgage here but you have to be outside Dublin. Then there is university costs with two girls 11 & 12 likely to want to go in a few years time the fixed costs here are another saving.

Booked my courier to collect my Covid sample I was sent a week ago.
The idea is to do the test on the same day as collection of samples.
Took my samples. Quite easy. Bagged and labelled 'em up and waited.
No show from courier
Shambles
