I think a lot of modern designs are the automotive equivalent of "woke".
In an effort to offend no-one, the don't please anyone either.

That, and a singular lack of imagination on the part of designers. More effort seems to go into technical attributes than aesthetics, hence monstrosities like this:

The picture thread is full of exquisite designs executed by talented designers, unlike the products of lazy cad-wielding numpties that we see today.
