I love them. Didn’t when they came out but they have grown on me and everytime I see one on the road they have loads of presence. The old car was fecking awful to drive unless on a field or rough ground. Drove one once on the road and that was one time too many for me. This one can do it all. Love it.

Always dreaded having to MOT the old original Discovery as always rusty, oil leaks and a smokey diesel motor filling the workshop full of poison on an emissions test.
Yet the Horsey brigade love them so the inside usually full of straw and Horsey gear.

Once upon a time there was a boy born in London from an English mother and his father was German. Before the first world war, he was still a child, he moved to Brussels and later to Bremen.
As a child he played with anything that had wheels.
And it was therefore not surprising that he went to a technical degree. In 1926 he entered the Technical University of Munich.
He joined Mercedes Benz in 1931 and an exceptional career awaited him.
In 1936 he was at the cradle of the Formula 1 cars of Mercedes, which were the first silver arrows.
Due to his enormous racing talent, he could easily translate the feeling of what a driver feels in the car to the drawing board.
And successes were not delayed. Then the second world war broke out.
And the formula 1 program disappeared.
Due to his dual nationality, English and German.
He was closely watched by the German
Sicherheitsdienst
He still worked at Daimler but had to improve the cylinder heads by developing db 603 aircraft engines. He then went to work at a small factory where they ran trucks on methane gas.
After the war in 1948 he returned to Mercedes Benz.
The new Formula 1 cars were developed under his leadership.

Which became world champion in 1954 and 1955.
In addition, the 300sl was developed the well-known wing-door sports car. And the 300slr sports car for the Le Mans 24 hours race. By merging the designs of these 3 cars.

The most beautiful car Mercedes has ever made was born. The 300 slr Uhlenhaut coupe.
It is a beautiful lined car with a silver arrow nose and futuristic wing doors.
Due to its 8 cylinder engine behind the front axle with almost 300 hp With petrol injection developed from the aircraft engines.
He was able to reach a top speed of 180 miles per hour.
Actually it was a Formula 1 car with a body built around it.
In 1955 these were speeds that you cannot imagine if you drove your VW beetle quietly on the highway at 95 km.
The Uhlenhaut coupe thus owes its name to this Rudolf Uhlenhaut.
He used the only street legal 300sl Uhlenhaut "ever built as a private car.
The story of a boy next door of Mr. Uhlenhaut told.
That the boys from the neighborhood would get ready in the evening.
When Rudolf came home from work. And then came skidding and sliding right through the bends of the neighborhood.
With its "Road legal formula one sports car"
And this story actually describes the most beautiful car ever built. Well in my opinion then.
