The government is likely to tighten coronavirus restrictions for parts of England on Monday - including the possibility of closing pubs and restaurants, the BBC understands.

It should caveat-that parts means “north”......

Noticed that during the April lockdown our roads were virtually empty.
They began getting busier with trade vehicles before the lockdown was lifted.
Lately they have been more or less pre pandemic with no sign of the traffic easing.
People around here have reverted to type, travelling to work when they could work from home, going shopping in town, retail parks etc for fun and not much social distancing apparent.
JCUHospital has again divided the building in two in preparation for more Covid cases in the near future.
Meanwhile I carry on with house refurb and try and avoid the numpties

Seems the way to make decisions now is to
  1. Release snippets of what may be done, may happen to the press
  2. Gauge public reaction/backlash to said releases.
  3. Make decisions based on said reaction.
  4. Announce to the public.
  5. Weather the storm.........

I'd love to know where they get the numbers from, its looking like we're going to be doing not much from midweek onwards but it can't just be the North, all cities must have similar numbers
I really can't see how London can be fine but North of Birmingham there's a problem

This is happening all over , London recently

Maybe the 'first wave' didn't really ever get going up north, before lockdown did its job. It was rife in London and the South weeks before it spread north. Could just be catching up now.
Or maybe due to the larger amount of cases in the South early on, there is a greater immunity in the community?

Who knows

Saw a new report last night in which they said how many people die from breathing poor quality air - they estimated around 5.5 million per year.

While the impact of Covid is really terrible, especially for those directly affected, does it really merit all these restrictions? It is sensible and prudent to take precautions, increased hand hygiene, masks in crowded places etc, but sometimes I feel the media needs to get some perspective on the numbers.

Sadly death always has a good day. If we threw money at cancer or promoting healthy, sustainable living, would not many more lives be saved?
