There will be a few unfortunate souls that wont be able to pick things up where they left off pre-covid , thought it would be a good idea to occupy the minds of the sportsmaserati intelligencia to come up with a few ideas and avenues which may be worth pursuing once the dust settles,

There will be lots of very cheap property, particularly commercial available for a song, liquidators will be having a field day along with administrators.

I think if ever there was going to be a marked downward adjustment in the property market it will be later this year...

Im investing in loo rolls in preparation for the next apocalypse.

Be plenty of empty property to store it and I could make a killing... and if the plan goes to s h i t ... well I can still clean up.

I don’t want to be doom and gloom but we are in unprecedented times. The larger part of the population will come out of this in a very bad way with probably years of debt; the economy is already on its knees and stagnant, just kickstarting it will take the nations/worlds focus. If you have some means there will be masses to snap up and hold onto for better times. I was a property developer in the late 80’s and witnessed people walking away from stuff because of 22-28% interest on borrowings that were simply unsustainable. If I’m brutally honest I'm still recovering from it! It took me 15 years to pluck up the balls to go self employed again and ever since to get us to where we are now.

A few of us are trying to buy our local as we are convinced it will close otherwise.
Run it as not for profit - we shall see

But pubs and coffee shops or anything that involves socialising has to be a safe bet.

I have a rather comfortably well off mate that did exactly that in Brigg , was going swimmingly well for a good number of years , had the largest undercover outside smoking den with heaters etc , 60 covers restuarant ,kids and family play area , B and B and extra mobile homes onsite for contract workers , did saturday night films on a massive projector sceen , and weekly updates on my mining progress , unfortunately its closed , as are a number of his other businesses , its only his medical side that is holding the fort together at the moment..........................................once this is over he'll be doubling my salary to entice me to go back out to SS i reckon

The pub in the next village did that some years back and has frequent visits from Prince Charles.

It was run by volunteers for few years, but they soon ran out of steam... so now run on a lease.

Seen a few around that combine the Post Office, Corner Shop and Cafe/Coffee shop too.

Here the one near us.

Well, post covid is clearly 2years away So I would suggest something that involves social distancing whilst providing pleasure for those in isolation will do well.
Alternatively, disposable covid suits/outfits/ face gear to enable us all to get back to work as before, safely will do well.

Network engineers, cloud architects and cyber security consultants. Many large clients i deal with, whilst having remote working foist upon them, have learned to live with this new reality, and realise the appreciable savings in converting 10 to 25% of the workforce to a work from home basis... The commercial lease savings are substantial.

OHS consultants to facilitate a more stable transition to safe and orderly work from home.

Governance and risk consultants, and those who market themselves as BCP and DR specialists...

Software vendors of managed device / endpoint productivity.

Do any of those and you'll find plenty of work out for 1 to 2 years...

I ran a project to do that about 5 years ago (in the end did not have to execute on it, but may have to after this latest drama). Let me know if I can help at all.

Surprised no one has come up with manfacturing yet , Cad designers and engineers , CNC machine shops , metal/plastic fabricators .......................this will also be a go to sector , as should a revival of the shipping industry to keep Greta happy...............................we will have to get out of the design it here and then get a manufacturing price from china , we need guys with hammers here , give your kids some nails and a hammer and go tell them to fix the fence like my grandad did , then after that give them some matches and tell them to burn the garden rubbish with all the bits that are left over lol

Well..... If anyone can figure out what to do with all the surplus computer monitors, exercise treadmills and coffee machines...
They'll also be in business. Dumbbell sets, battle ropes etc all priced 3 times what they were a month ago... And they'll be nigh on useless in 3 months... Or in 2087 if Wattie gets his way.

I think the Fleece project was led by 4 local families, who put in most of the money, unlike most of the 'community pub' projects which have a broader funding base. They bought it in 2012, for £335,000 and had a manager in at first, which went badly. Then they got a good manager who did really well, I was told. I didn't know about the volunteers part, or what is happening now.

Our local pub (about 10 miles away from Hillesley) was closed and suffered 5 years of development, planning and rebuilding chaos. It was finally rebuilt as a pub (plus 4 houses), and we raised loads of money across the whole community to buy it, but in the end the building's owner found a tenant. They have run it for 5 years with many ups and downs, but it is empty again now, so I may have to dust off the old plan. Our village shop is (mostly) run by volunteers, but it was always our belief that a pub would have to have a professional tenant.

Property of all sorts will be interesting, as I think there will be a boom in both demand and supply - so high transaction volumes and very volatile prices, I suppose.
