Americanism

I'm finding more and more shop staff saying "have a nice day" after paying for something these days, especially the younger generation, just like the American "yoll have a nice day now"

I hate the forming of verbs out of nouns, ie ‘I’ve been burgularized’ and not ‘I’ve been burguled’

My daughter, like, says 'like', as like every second, like, word.

And she goes to private school. There's no hope.

It came from the MotoGP days
Incorrect. The first noted sporting use was a NASCAR referance a decade earlier. Typically used nowadays in reference to a team coach but has been part of US lingo for "donkey's years". How ever many that may be.

I recall a Sun headline!
Britain's most lovingest couple
presumably because they had 34 children

I still have a touch of the vapours when I recall the picture of them

For me it came from 500s, as you couldn't get NASCAR on eurosport...Toby Moody used to say it tongue in cheek.

34 kids is a lack of TV not a depth of love

My mrs, as a linguist and a non-native English speaker, tho she speaks it better than what I do, hates with a vengeance ‘could of’ and ‘should of’, not an Americanism, but a thicko-britism...

My pet hate: people who invite me to an event by sending me an invite and not an invitation. However, as mentioned previously it's the evolution of the language wether we like it or not.

The upward intonation in sentences winds me up, as if every statement is a question!
My 10yo son does it with copious overuse of like and basically! Glad to see my money is being well spent on his education! He is a very bright kid but I can't stand this new age speak.

I get moaned at every time I pull him up on each instance of like or basically & for speaking Australian!

Can we take a moment and imagine a reciprocal thread on ML. What must they think of a typical stiff ars*d Brit with their dodgy teeth and Victorian manner.

My favourite labour, is to include the letter U to words, it adds so much colour and doesn't clamour any sentence.

Starting a reply with so when asked a question and as mentioned, reaching out, if they're close enough to reach out to , just ask them
