Don't fret, Andy. I finance mine. Of course, once you get one, you need less and les for the next one, if that makes sense.

And you have kids, and a lifestyle you like and stuff like that ;)

I've never spent more than 23k on a car so no, not dumping money,
If anyone can explain how to invest the cash, while finanacing a car I am open to it.
I just dont like paying "extra"
SWMBO had a pcp deal on the Fiat 500, but it was @ 1.9% and then I paid the balance.
That was 6 years ago,
Dave

Funny that...most I have ever spent on a car is 24k. Only ever financed the XJ as that was a business purchase. That ended not ideally & wish I hadn't bothered financing it.

I don't agree, not everyone has £115k to spunk on a car with cash whereas they may have a £50k cash deposit and afford the monthlies very easily. It limits you to a £50k car market if you pay cash but with PCP plans you can move onto supercar territory. Finance is so cheap at the moment it would be stupid to not use it imo.

You will have to explain it too me in "idiot" terms so I can sell it too the wife......
How would you suggest it would work on this "for instance"

Is that your plan then Phil...sell the GTS...drop 50k deposit on a 458 then finance it over 5 years?

The fly in my ointment is I'm unlikely to get any decent amount of car finance for some reason. Took me 6 months to get the mortgage when we moved 3 years ago & 6 months to remortgage 2 years later. I can buy them cash but can't get finance. Then they create & sell NINJA loans....crazy.

Have you tried talking to a credit agency?

Dave, on that Strad you would pay your deposit - as much or little (down to about 10%) as you like - then finance the balance over anything up to 5 years. For the lowest rates, you want a loan that pays off fully over that term, rather than one that leaves a balloon to pay at the end.

Let's say you currently have about £35k to spend. Pay that as the deposit. That will leave another £32k to finance. Which, on a repayment over 5 years, would work out at something like £600 or so per month. And if you want to pay in extra at any time during the term (to pay it off quicker or reduce the monthly figure) you can do so with no penalties.

I have a mate who arranges such things so can put you in touch if needs be. Only downside, you have to sign the agreement face to face, and he's based in Bournemouth.

I just can't be bothered going through the hassle of talking to banks or any other similar associated muppets. They are all nuts.

HSBC want to close 3 of the 4 companies bank accounts due to this Safeguard cr4p. I've told them I'm not giving them the obtuse & invasive info they asked for which is unnecessary information to them. Firstly they don't need to know 90% of this stuff to offer/service a bank account. Secondly and the main reason is I don't trust the idiots won't give that info to someone else or protect it from being hacked, stolen or compromised. Why do they want it for 3 out of 4 but not the 4th? Idiots!

It won't work as the GTS is only worth £35k say and the deposit on it is around £17k. If I get that back at the end of he finance I would need to find another 33k to get to the £50k deposit. If my shares come in then it's entirely plausible but I do t want to count my chickens. My plan is to get into a Strad next (4 seater) so it will take some man maths as they are around £80k start. First World problems eh?

Which surprises me for someone who lives in a house the size of yours.

The lowest monthlies are on a PCP, I see no point in running it for 5 years as most people change well before then. £30k down rest on finance over 3 years at £430 per month with a £28k balloon I reckon.
