Hmm

Pretty sure FD don't say this, but not checked their site as yet:

Engine control module adds about 30 horsepower and 30 foot pounds of torque

It's not me selling them so I'm not speaking from experience but an additional 30bhp & torque increase would speed any car up surely, no?

Seems pretty good for the GT owners. Less so for those looking at a 4200. :frustrating:

From what I've read the DBW is pretty much an essential upgrade - particularly for earlier models. A better throttle response and claims, or rather hints, of extended clutch life, etc. Although with a more aggressive clutch engagement is there a greater risk of damage to tangs? I haven't seen any posts suggesting this though.

Unless someone is racing I can't see such clear advantages provided by the ECM - other than it can be done so why not. Would the additional stress on components, etc be reason enough not to? Maybe I'm missing something though?

There's some discussion about the preferences on the DBW. I know Matt wasn't keen on his. I honestly don't think there's good enough data to confirm that it prolongs clutch life, but that's a minority view. For the increase in HP I think the additional strain is tiny overall and not worth fretting over. 30hp would be probably useful, but not necessarily noticeable. About the same as a passenger I guess.

About the same as my beer gut! That would be an interesting graph for FD to publish - performance loss v size of a*s.

Have been wondering if the bypass switches that FD incorporate could be tied in with the sport button. To give an all or nothing option.

Both for 900 pounds could be a nice deal. But be careful, cause you may need to send it back to FD for making it adaptable to the new VIN number.
having both dbw and ecm (on 4200) i can say that i cannot live without the dbw. It is (together with the springs) the best upgrade i did.
As for the ecm, i can say that there is an upgrade, which is noticable mainly at higher rpm. But 30 hp out of 400 is not much. Well, though, it's not FD's fault, but natural aspirated engines cannot get upgraded more than 5-7% by the single ecu upgrade.I asked FD to make a custom chip for mine, adding the x pipe, intake and cats, something they did and the upgrade got a bit more. Never rolled her though to find the exact benefit.
Taking for sure that the Granturismo is a heavy car, the ecm could be a useful upgrade.
Hope this helps.

Hi - thanks for that. Re: a 4200, I've read so much about the DBW and it is almost exclusively positive. My real concern, with the quicker engagement, is whether the car would lurch at take off and/or low speed. Whether about town driving would become more tricky. I guess I would've seen some comment about it if so. Which I haven't.

The ECM was more of a passing interest but interesting none the less. Particularly the bypass option. I'd be looking to install to a Spyder and I suspect approx. 400 is plenty.

i don't believe this could be risky. On the one hand the dbw transorms the car, but on the other, it doesn't turn it to an F1 car. So, i believe if your foot has good control of the gas pedal now, you will in the same way learn to handle that.
