One considers and is told that the cream of the countries brains are at University or have been , my question is if the attendees are the cream then their lecturers and teachers must be the creme de la creme of the brains of Britain , so why do most of the univerities have such massive debts , surely if they cant run their own establishments to keep their heads above water what chance does the rest of the country have :banghead1:

to get back on track this thread was about the lecturers/teachers not keeping their own houses above water , if they cant do it how can they teach others to do it , maybe they got it wrong and the teachings wrong ,and the poor bwankers have had to resort to other means out in the real world to make ends meet

A wouldn't give a job to a University graduate, a guy with a degree in electronics didn't know how to test a fuse! Other's didn't know how a ratchet worked!

Apprenticeship ARE the way forward. No loans, paid to learn. Simple.

The government gave the banks a blind eye so that they could generate the cash to give out the loans that the government needed to service it's debts. The people gave the government their votes in return for low taxes, jobs for "everyone" (remember the loans to the government?) and cheap money. Find an innocent "party" in the web....it's a good game that you can play for years.

Daughter off to LSE next month...should be an interesting economics lesson for her. Living in london that is rather than the course itself!

It is. The shame is that the journalists want to find whose to "blame". Shame they cant criticise their own lack of reporting of the problems being built up in the run up (remember the presses almost laughter at the "irrational exuberance" statements?). Personally I blame the credit ratings agencies :)
