Only on a few mountain roads Chris - been out today and haven't driven on a single flake of snow. All the roads near here are completely cleared.

I was just a bit surprised to hear of issues there, but I guess if there are a bunch of tourists with no experience then any amount of preparation can still lead to problems.

That's the local drift - they consider that every Frenchman who comes here is a clown from Paris, full of arrogance and clueless. Oddly, not much ire directed at Brits. Apparently most of them actually do bring chains, it's the arsey French from major towns who are seen as the problem. Doesn't take much to close a mountain road though - one accident or stuck car tends to do the trick.

It was pretty impressive on the tv last night though, with thousands of cars parked up on the roads. As far as I could work out they weren't actually stuck, just couldn't drive further as the roads were closed ahead.
