as long as its not been left longer than 2 years/10k between a service at any time, it would be fine.

I suspect you dropped this?

Seriously, I'd agree. Get it checked out with a PPI.

I can understand that some owners may ignore annual services due to very low miles. However it does make a false economy as your question clearly shows you are concerned and may not want to pay full price.

Annual services are not that expensive at about £600 from most v.good agents. For me I would be worried about other issues that may have been neglected or pit off...or not picked up during a service.

Service items also deteriorate with age or neglect including oils and other fluids and these in turn can damage other items like he combined water and oil pump.

as long as it passes a ppi and its been done every 2 years minimum i cant see there being any problems.

as said there is the issue with the oil pump but it seems to happen randomly even on well maintained examples.

If this can be reflected in the price I would not worry about it. Just check the cost saving has not been applied elsewhere.

Agree, wouldn't bother me.....As long as its passes an u=indi inspection and it has been serviced correctly at a good dealer or specialist I wouldn't be concerned. If it hasn't done man miles between services it makes sence not to do it ever year.....Most cars need servicing every two ears now anyway including Maserati's ..... Yearly was a way of getting money out of punters and keeping dealers going.......The latest 4.7 engine is the same engine as the old 4.2I believe so why should it be yearly for a 4.2 and two years for a 4.7.....

Agree with above, wont put me off.....same engine in the GT is every 2 years....mainly these service intervals are a marketing exercise.....

Hmm, I'm not so sure I'd be willing to ignore the lack of annual services on a car with low annual mileage. Sure if the annual service more or less coincides with the mileage service, then that's one thing, but a low mileage car could go two or more years without any fluids being changed, or any adjustments being made, and that would worry me, particularly on an engine that is now ten years old, and one that's a prima donna at the best of times. For me, as time passes, it's increasingly important to see paperwork showing a well cared for engine appropriate to the time between services rather than the mileage between services.

Don't forget the GT series engines are much newer engines and engineering tolerances have improved markedly in recent times, as have the materials used to make them. Likening the 4200/GS engines to the later GT engines is, for me, a dangerous comparison to make, and I wouldn't be at all convinced to view a 4200/GS car that has followed the later service routine.

I tend to agree....I really found it hard to see what the dealer did every year for their £1600 when I had a 3200.....

I'm happy doing the annual myself; it does all actually get done that way. I've had so many main dealers say they have done a minor service when they have done sod all except change the oil and oil filter; never does the air filter get done by my reckoning... Not saying the same for indies they will generally do what they are asked to do.

Have I misread all the bumph on the new generation engines?! Wet sump? New heads with different materials used? Different oil and water pump? Different pistons? Different management?

Doesn't sound the same as the 4200 engine to me.

Wouldn't bother me as long as when car needed something it was done, so no scimping on brakes tyres etc with bills to prove, but cannot really see much point in annual services with minimal mileage other than keeping resale price, but as cars get longer in the tooth would rather see bills to back up it had been well looked after rather than a full stamped up book.

For a low annual mileage car, see no problem with servicing every 2 years.
Mine before purchase averaged 18 to 24 months between servicing which was in mileage terms was only between 1 and 3k miles. So even after 2 years the oil has hardly had a hard life, and I plan doing the same (doing similar mileages) especially as most manufactures have moved to 2 years including Maserati.
No dealer/indie is going to say 2 years is okay when the official is 1 year for that model, for obvious reasons! ...but it would be refreshing if they did agree, if the annual mileage is low.

Get an inspection........if it looks good....drives well and the report is good...not worry too much, but they are still classed as supercar motors and need more attention because of that

I agree Frank...Inspection and as long as the rest looks good but.........The onl problem I have is that we all say well its a supercar and needs more attention...Why..?...A service is a service......Its still and engine that needs an oil filter change and a few checks here and there.....Yes in a higher state of tune than ou run of the mill engine but high end car makers use this to good advantge to pull you pants down when it comes to servicing your car.......My Dad was a machanic and he was he used to sa it was just a way of getting money into the compan as most cars could go longer between services......I tend to agree........
