I thought I would pass this on although maybe you are already aware - if so sorry!

Some time ago I recieved an invite through Meridian to the Wilton House (10th August) event which I believe can be quite difficult to gain entry to. Today I have recieved another message saying there are still 7 places available and therefore thought I would post it here.

I had joined the Modena Owners club (free just register) which gives deals on servicing etc!

The lawn parking is what the original post was for. They want a 100 car display. I had been invited through both meriden and the maserati "old boys" club. Unfortunately we have a busy weekend this week and carfest in a couple of weeks time so thought it best to miss.

Premium and West Lawn tickets are sold out but standard tickets shouldn't be a problem. The event is open to the paying public, and it's just the supercar/hypercar sections which require invitations.

Ah, good point Phil. I ought to have clarified that Merrian's and my MCs are going to be part of the supercar/hypercar parade. Consequently we won't be at Wilton House in the morning as Jay arranges 'morning activities' for all the those participating in the parade. But seeing all the Masers on the lawn outside the house will be a great sight for us to see when we drive in :D

WCS is an amazing show to be a part of, and was my highlight of last year TBH. I (in my first GranCab MC :frusty5:) was parked up at RAF Wroughton on the runway and I was surrounded by two Pagani Zondas, a Bugatti Veyron, a Koenigsegg CCR Revo, a McLaren SLR, amongst others... and to top it all off, I managed to tail the Koenigsegg on our countryside convoy from Wroughton to Wilton House = RESULT! :D It really was one of those special 'pinch me' moments - an unforgettable day.

I'm planning to drop one of mine off (probably the Shamal) at the house on Saturday, on my way from from Dorset to Sussex. I'll swing by again on the Sunday for the event, on my way back. So I should be there around lunch time to meet up with any other forumites.

Interesting; when the event first started a few years ago I asked Jay Broom (co-founder) if they wanted Maseratis, and was told that only MC12's would be accepted. Since then there has been the odd GT but little other Maserati presence, with an abundance of Ferraris and Lambos making up most of the field.

In February I asked via the PH forum if they were doing anything for the centenary but received no reply. Having seen the posts for this event I've emailed Jay to ask if he has enough cars for 100 (I doubt it), but again do not expect a reply.

I like Wilton as a venue and enjoy the events there, including the breakfast meets, but increasingly get the impression that unless you're part of Jay's inner circle and have £150k's worth of supercar he's not interested.

It will be interesting to see how many Masers turn up on the 10th.

I reached the same conclusion last year, Phil. Maseratis just don't seem quite special enough, which is fair enough in the company of ultra-rare, ultra-€ hypercars.

The definition they used for a modern supercar was (and I'm not sure if this still olds true) that it had to have only two seats and have cost more than £100k when new. So no Bentley Continental GT's, AMG Merc saloons or stuff like that. It had to be something genuinely exotic and exciting. (And before anyone pipes up about the Maclaren F1 having 3 seats, remember that there are exceptions to every rule!). Now that Maser make the occasional 2 seat MC Strad job that costs a lot, owners of these cars can be (and are) invited.

There were several Masers in the general car park last year, including my black QP. The key difference this year is that the proper Maserati's (i.e. the ones with 4 seats) will be on the south lawn on display, not just stuck in the main public car park field.

Only up to a point Adam. Except for the MC12 I don't think there is a Maserati of any generation to compare with hypercars such as Veyrons and Zondas. However, they admit plenty of 348's, 355's, 456's, and the like, not to mention Espadas, Escort Mexicos, various Porsches, TVR's, and Lotuses which do not meet the 'supercar' criteria and which could be eclipsed by many tridents in the performance and styling stakes, and it's interesting to see that Maserati is on Lord Pembroke's restoration list.

It's their event and they can invite who they like, but I think it's rather disingenuous to promote it for petrolheads and then exclude a performance marque which has been around longer than most; that suggests personal bias rather than dispassionate reason.

Unless it rains I'll probably go anyway, though I really don't expect to see 100 Maseratis in the main display; I do hope they prove me wrong.

Rant over
