Not really Greg, my mate did mine, simply cut the section and welded new centre pipes to replace. Dead simple.

thanks phil. when I get the old girl back I might look into this. she has a stainless back system which has a nice deep sound but a little louder (not larini loud though) would be ok I think.

Is she still in? What was the outcome?
phil was fully booked up when he got back from hols so she is only just being looked at..........hoping to hear full story by tomorrow though. phil advises the casing was not cracked so the bolts must have worked loose over time eventually leading to the gear oil leaking and hitting the exhaust, hence all the smoke at the time.......still everything crossed that there was no internal serious damage to gear system from driving it that 2 miles or so after brunty or that her sitting for near 3 weeks probably gear oil dry has not caused any other issues:unsure:

They are reasonably robust Greg. Hopefully oil, torqued up bolts, good to go. Treat her to a set of Larinis with the money you've saved! ;)

ha ha.......think you know the optimum loudness of larinis are not for my delicate old ears, will leave the sound barrier driving to you, stewart and athol up here! but a little more grunt through the stainless back might not go amiss so as said, when she gets home I will put looking at removing the mid box on the "winter fix list" alongside fixing the bubbling wing mirrors.
your black beauty all set for modena run then?

Yes Greg, she seems to be. I really need to take her for a wee run 1st just as a last check. Fingers crossed all remains good.

I must be missing something here as i have opened centre box - cleared it out and got larini back boxes - there is a nice deep sound but I wouldn't call it loud , i think the turbos dull it down - Contigo what do you think of the sound of your setup ?

Mine is standard back boxes and centre section delete and it sounds ok. Not loud but certainly more purposeful. I want wink to PM me for the swap but as far nothing :( :)

I know the M5 is sold recently was IMO the loudest I have ever heard truly F1 sound. Miss it but the wife and kids refused to passenger in it for fear of the thing!
