What made you buy a Maserati?

Always loved cars from all era's. Just the name of some manufacturers sounds special and Maserati has always stood out to me.

I had a toy Maserati race car and silver matchbox Bora as a kid in the early 70's and remember reading something in a book about a Maserati built for the Shah of Iran and also getting a yellow RC Bora as a Christmas present. Together with family holiday's to the New Forest and the showroom in Lyndhurst I was bound to be hooked.

In the late 80's I often walked past a Biturbo and SM near where I worked and thought both were fantastic. Seriously came close to buying a Merak and a late soft top Biturbo but that didn't work out.

Then the 3200 was released I remember seeing it in a magazine and thought it was fantastic, everything a Maserati should be, a week later I was behind one on the way home from work and it looked even more gorgeous in the flesh.

A few years ago I was looking to buy an E-type but couldn't find one I was happy with and couldn't shake the thought it would be something else that I just would not get to use. Then I noticed how affordable the 3200's were and after a bit of research and a few viewings I was suddenly a Maserati owner, something I never really expected to really happen.

I have had the car for over two years now and couldn't be happier with it, it never fails to make me grin and has performed faultlessly, touch wood it continues.

I am pretty certain this will be a keeper.

My Dad used to take his Healey to track days and there was a car that over took him at Brands, I asked him what it was and he said it was a flippin' Maserati.....

After that I wanted one.

Ferari out of my price range but when I clapped eyes on my anniversary blue GS I fell in love and placed a deposit even before hearing the glorious v8 come to life. But new I was in safe hands buying from adgsevernoaks
Would just like to add. Before buying a maserati I was looking at two other cars a jag XKR or an m6. What was a big factor was this forum. The enthusiasm you lot have for the brand and willingness to help others. it makes being a maserati owner even more special

that's what we are here for, to get people into the brand and telling them to not be scared......

same with me and the old forum....I had people guiding me and that's why I bought it

I would also like to add that this and the maseratiforum where decisive for me as well.
Keeping costs in control is important and when I saw the amount of information available out there, the second hand parts market, eurospares and the willingness of the members to share experiences and guidance I was pretty much sold into maserati ownership.

I've always been a bit of a car nut, owning a myriad of great models. I first nearly bought a Kyalami from a guy in Huddersfield quite a few years ago, and dearly wish I had, and came across the 3200/4200s when I was looking to change my Range Rover P38 for something sporty again. Coming to the realisation that they were becoming affordable to the likes of me, I started doing my homework on the models, trying to work out which would be the best for me. I picked mine up just over a year ago and have loved wvery minute. I hope it will be a keeper and also hope to be able to add a friend of a 4200 at some time.
I will never be without one now, long live the 3200!!!!

Always driven Alfas... Had many of them now. Since the 3200 came I've been in love. I dislike Ferrari most because the image. I'd like a discreet 456 but prices are still high.. Then Maserati came along with the best looking GT in a long time. 3200 is for me the dealbreaker. Discreet, yet cool, odd, powerful and good to drive. Nowadays I'm looking for a Ghibli GT because they are a bit more fun to drive and eaiser to own for me at the moment. A 3200 require a bit more attention IMO.

Plane tickets to Italy is ordered. 18-21st Jan 2015 to see a couple of Ghiblis I've been in contact with... :)

Was wondering what to get after a 993, had interim cars in the mean time, none of note, saved up a few more bob, did an autotrader search within a certain budget, up popped the 4200, several months research followed.....the rest is history!

For me 20 years of BMW's gave me brand fatigue. I couldn't get excited about a car that saved petrol by dying at the lights, or was focused on being able to book a restaurant while I was driving.

I wanted the passion back that I experienced from my first cars, FIAT 124 sports ( I had 2 ) then an MGA 1600 mk1 ( because I needed something that wouldn't generate speeding tickets but still was engaging ).

The UK imports had driven Aussie Maserati prices down to the point this was a viable option, and I could convince the wife we needed one.

PS she hates it, and would probably prefer the comfort of the 4200 seats rather than the GS buckets.

But for me, after a year I still pinch myself that I have one.
