What have you done to your Maserati today?

Have seen some randos on eBay...let me know how/if I can help...

Saw the eBay ones but went through Scuderia to get originals for now. Since I don’t plan on driving it in typical Seattle wet weather, I can probably get away with not having the mud mats I have everywhere else

Nothing to the actual car today but got this back from the trimmers. Hopefully one day next week, if the weather permits, it'll be going back in along with all the trim bits currently sat on the 'workbench' a.k.a the Delta's roof.

Then tax from the 1st of Feb and who knows, maybe even drive the thing a bit.liner.JPG

I had so much fun replacing my heater core that I thought I’d do it again.

Seriously.

Had finished up the Spyder a few days back, and the weather last night was delightful, so offered the Mrs a test drive spin around town. Luckily, we didn’t venture far, as the brand new, $600 Brassworks heater core sprung a leak from the end cap, and quietly filled the floorboards. We got home just as the leak seemed to start, thankfully. I was sure I was an idiot and it was a hose connection but alas, it was not.

Just so happens I had ordered a heater matrix of the OEM variety from a UK reseller on eBay as a backup plan when my original Brassworks order went sideways with improperly sized hose connections. A $35 bet that paid off.

Had a double sized basil gimlet and found the inspiration to dive in. Funny how proficient one becomes at these things. Had the entire disassembly done in under two hours with only one scratched knuckle. New core is in, but it’s a bit late to complete reassembly so will finish it up tomorrow.

Pro tip. Test the heater core installation without completely reassembling the car, just plug in the airbags to avoid a CEL, and run it up to temperature.

If anyone wants to hire me to do their heater core swap out, I’ll charge airfare and two basil gimlets.

Todd ,Just to clarify, you replaced the brassworks core with one from eBay would that be Motoradsonline? that you bought it from?

If so could you give an update as to if it works ok etc.please

I have just bought one from this company not because my heater is leaking but just to be on the safe side. Also it was the last one and the price has already risen in a year,

@joered I ordered the Alfa 166 part from Nissens.

I’m sure if it’s an Alfa166 core, it’s likely from the same factory.

Unbelievable that the Brassworks core failed - they have had an impeccable reputation.

On the plus side, may well be setting a land speed record for Maserati heater core replacement.

Today, 9 days after what tuned into open surgery to sort out the state of my gallbladder, I felt I had the strength back to get the cover off the 3200 and fire up the engine. Very satisfying just to get some heat through her. Not quite ready to jump in the driving seat just yet, but I’m on the mend and should be good to go early next week … I’m really looking forward to that!

Well, it ain't no Maser and it ain't me doing it, but my winter jobs list is underway:

Repaint corroded wing mirror stalks
Sand and re-laquer carbon side strakes, which were pitted and water-damaged
Repair front splitter, which got graunched on a crappy piece of concrete that I heard before I saw in a French gite car park
Remove piano black reflecty, dusty, finger-printery central dash panels and re-trim with matt carbon
Tidy PPF up.

Add in a fresh MoT and service in March and I shall look forward to getting it back in spring.
