Hi All

I'd like to do a little driving trip in Wales, starting on Friday night and returning to London by Sunday evening.

It'll be for just me and the wife (so don't accidentally turn up :) )

I'd appreciate recommendations for Roads/Routes (beyond the EVO Triangle)

I'd also appreciate a recommendations for a couple of nice hotels.

Thanks very much
R

EDIT:
We WON'T be going until hotels/pubs are open, as we'll have nowhere to stay!

Where to start Ross, big place.
I know North Wales really well, best hotels:

A friend has a great restaurant in Colwyn Bay too, Porth Eirias.

South Wales, much more choice, and Crickhowell is lovely as it Tenby and St Davids.
Roads, down to Barmouth and Dolgellau are superb, and the Brecon Beacons in parts. Hope that’s of help.

The abuse I received on Facebook for working, my God, it’s like winding back 30 years or more.

As has been said above, currently you can only travel 5 miles*

However the First Minister is due to announce the latest update on restrictions so this may change this week.

*Certain travel for work and essential travel is exempt, see Welsh Gov web site for details.

Unless our beloved leader in Cardiff says it ok on his Friday update I wouldn’t bother. The police are on high alert for English registered vehicles as are the locals in some towns and hotels should be closed unless you’re homeless or in other limited criteria. You’ll be plastered all over social media before you know it. I’ve heard dates into July before hotels can open for normal guests.

Not just the Nationlists though, far from it. Plenty of ‘English’ living here have been saying the same.

You mean the English telling the English to stay away from Wales? Or the English speaking Welsh telling the English to stay away?

Surely he isn’t considering coming this week Sion, he means later in the summer. Every bar, hotel and restaurant in the U.K. is closed.

Ah, see that’s what missing ‘a’ from the sentence does.. makes more sense now, thought he was brave.

Yup. English telling english not living here in Wales to stay away. My FB feed has been full of them... not just English though, anyone not local.. not a lot different to Cumbria or Cornwall though.

I was working in Bangor the Friday before the last bank holiday, just over from Anglesey, and the local force had 4 cars, 8 coppers, in the car park of the Tesco. They did a roaring trade in camper vans and cars full of stuff all from over the border.. It was funny given that the campers etc would have driven past at least 6 matrix signs telling them Welsh Covid legislation was in effect. What also made me smile was the police cars all had 2s up...

Oh and I’d avoid the Evo triangle unless you’re very well behaved ;)

We do a lot of photography around Bala/Ffestiniog - even the road getting to Bala is breathtaking. So is the tense nervousness trying to find a petrol station after a day’s ‘exercise’.
The Elan Valley further south is beautiful, the Metropole Hotel is rather good and run by a petrolhead.
Further south there’s the Black Mountain Road and the road heading out of Ebbw Vale.

They’ve put average speed cameras now on the Evo Triangle.. but not yet on the pass from Ysbty Ifan over to Blaenau...
